Let each morning begin with a leisurely, candlelit, full breakfast served in the privacy of your room. Every bedroom has a comfortable sitting area and a breakfast nook and either a king or queen size canopied bed and private bath. One bedroom has a real woodburning fireplace! Another has an adjoining private, screened-in porch.
This historically significant Georgian brick home built during the restoration period of Colonial Williamsburg sits on over a half acre and is just a minute walk from George Washington's favorite tavern there -- Christiana Campbell's.

"We chose Governor's Trace for its reputation as one of Virginia's most romantic spots -- a reputation well deserved." - L&P, Raleigh, NC
Breakfast is a private affair. You don't have to be dressed for the day when we serve breakfast (we provide robes.) If you're not a morning person, that's O.K. We won't ask you any questions (but we'll be happy to answer any of yours.) We give you a choice of two times for breakfast each day...one for early birds and one for those who prefer a few extra winks. Enjoy being pampered with a private, candlelit breakfast each morning.

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Sue & Dick Lake for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn? Governor's Trace B&B has been recognized by the Washington Post and others as vying for one of the most romantic bed and breakfasts in Williamsburg, VA.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn? Romantic atmosphere and the closest B&B to the historic area...just a 30 second walk away! Privacy...we are the only B&B that serves daily a private breakfast directly in the room or on the porches at no additional cost. One of the best definitions of an Innkeeper is: "People taking care of people"....and that's what we enjoy the most---taking care of people.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit? The number one attraction is visiting historic Colonial Williamsburg.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn? Folks who tell us: “We can't wait to come back.”
What’s the best kept secret about the area? Introduce yourself to Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Patrick Henry, portrayed by professional actors, and try to guess which one is actually related to the famous personage he is portraying. The actors never ever come out of character, so you can't pop the obvious question.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area? We suggest visiting the historic triangle consisting of Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestown and the Yorktown Battlefield. Additional popular attractions include Busch Gardens and Water Country USA.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn? When you're only a 30 second walk away from historic Williamsburg, everything is within walking distance to include all the historic exhibit buildings (188), the famous historic dining taverns (4), and a variety of interesting merchant craft shops.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area? Our most favorite restaurants include King's Arms Tavern, Christiana Campbell's Tavern in the historic area, the Whaling Company (best seafood in town) and La Tolteca (best Mexican restaurant in town.).
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? Historic Williamsburg colonialwilliamsburg.com
Historic Jamestown historicjamestown.org
Yorktown Battlefield nps.gov/york/index.htm
How many rooms does your inn have? Three large rooms(approx. 15' X 18') and this doesn't even include the attached private screened in porches.
Do you accept pets? We do not accept pets primarily because so many folks fear and/or are allergic to some domestic animals.

What's so special about Governor's Trace? Well, just about everything, we think, but we'll let you be the judge. We have some of the most spacious B&B rooms in town. Each room measures about 15 X 20 feet, and that's not even counting the adjoining porches! All of the rooms have a comfortable sitting and a breakfast area, ensuite private baths, and either a king or queen size bed. For allergy sufferers, rest assured we do not have feather beds nor feather pillows. Location, location, location---park your car behind the B&B & leave it; the historic area is just a 30 second walk away! Now that's special!
Full candlelit breakfast served in the privacy of your room every morning and no extra charge ever, or it can also be served on your private screened-in porch, weather permitting, and your choice of two times for breakfast.
