More About Michigan

The Great Lakes State of Michigan is surrounded by four of the five great lakes and by Lake Saint Clair, which borders Windsor Ontario, Canada. This makes it an obvious boating aficionado’s paradise! Lansing or L-Town as it’s referred to, is the capitol of Michigan. Also known as REO Town, Lansing was the actual birthplace of the automobile industry, named after Ransom Eli Olds. Detroit, home of GM, is now a Mecca for a thriving music scene that ranges from rap to rock. Many famous musicians are from Detroit or have made it their home. Some notables are Eminem, Jack White and Kid Rock. But Michigan is not all night clubs, and cars. It is also a very family friendly destination. Battle Creek also known as Cereal City, is home to Kellogg Company, makers of every kid’s favorite foods from cereals, to Pringles, Pop-Tarts and more! Although they no longer do tours, there are events throughout the city that feature Kellogg products. For the romantic getaway one must visit Mackinac Island. This enclave is home to more than 5 art galleries and has quite the “artsy” scene. Other points of interest include The Grand Hotel, where Somewhere in Time was filmed, Mackinac Island State Park, and many historic landmarks. This treasure is one that can only be experienced on foot, by horse-drawn carriage or bicycle, as cars are prohibited. So whether you go for music, boating or romance, Michigan makes a great destination for your next escape.
