At our beautiful Rockland bed and breakfast, we strive to "wow" our guests with the "B's" in Bed & Breakfast! We start off the morning with coffee, juice and tea service available at 7 am so the early risers can start on their caffeine intake. We don't believe in alarm clocks on vacation so we choose to serve our multi-course breakfast anytime between 8 and 9:30 am at individual tables in the main dining room. Feel free to stroll down at 8 am or roll out of bed, slip on one of our comfy robes and sit down at 9:30. We serve coffee or tea, assorted juices, a fruit course, homemade bread or pastry, and a main course with meat and an entrée that alternates between "sweet" and "savory". We post our menu the night before and encourage guests to let us know of food preferences, allergies and other dietary issues in advance so that we can prepare a breakfast choice to meet all needs. We always have alternative breakfasts available like hot or cold cereal, plain scrambled eggs or plain French toast so please let us know your preferences at check-in.
At our romantic Rockland, Maine B&B, we understand that sometimes when you travel you don't always feel like having dessert at dinnertime or can't always finish your meal and want to have it later in the day. We provide two guest pantry areas for guests at our Rockland inn, one in the main house and one in the carriage house to help meet these needs. Each area has an instant hot water dispenser, glassware, china, cutlery, microwave and full refrigerator and freezer. We stock the pantry with assorted teas, coffee, sodas, juice, ice, the "World's Best Vanilla Ice Cream" Maine-made Gifford Ice cream and of course homemade pies made by the Berry Manor Inn Moms recently featured on the Food Network! The Rockland and Camden area of Midcoast Maine, with its unique and diverse geography, lighthouses and seascapes is rich in maritime history, natural beauty and culture. Each season is unique in the mid-coast area and offers a seasonal array of activities and events. In addition to the seasonal activities and fairs, the cultural opportunities abound year round with our renowned museums, chamber concerts, art galleries, and theatre. Don't worry if all of this activity gives you an appetite - the area is well known for its array of restaurants for every taste and budget from lobster shacks on the water to world class cuisine.
Rockland has been named the 2007 and 2010 Top Adventure Town to Live and Play In by National Geographic magazine. It is no surprise considering this town is the self-proclaimed Lobster Capital of the world, home to the largest fleet of historic schooners, and a featured stop on the Maine Art Museums Trail, the Maine Birding Trail, Maine Golf Trail, Maine Touring Trail and an epicurean hub featuring regional, ethnic and organic delights!
The gardens at the Berry Manor Inn begin to awaken from their winter naps in the spring. The breezes warm, the birds sing and there is renewed energy in the air. Springtime offers the opportunity to unleash our creativity and to be inspired by the many local artisans. Enjoy learning about Maine's maple syrup industry at Maine Gold or enjoy a tour at one of our many artisans shops like homemade soap making at Trillium Soaps, or visit the timeless workroom and showroom of Windsor Chair makers where they still handcraft all of their furniture, learn how to make cheese at the State of Maine Cheese company or observe the hand weaving and dying for the exquisitely made Swan's Island Blankets.
Also, throughout the spring season, most of the local horticultural and nature centers offer spring courses and events to help awaken our green thumbs. Thousands of lady slippers peek out at Coastal Maine's Botanical Gardens on this 248 acre waterfront oasis and birding activities abound on Maine's Birding Trail. At the Berry Manor Inn, we celebrate spring with our several specials including a Mother's Day Package and a Savor the Flavor of Rockland package.
Summertime in the Rockland and Camden area, is the time to get outdoors and enjoy water activities, hiking, garden tours, gallery walks and festivals! Our historic windjammer fleet, day sailers and adventure boats all offer breathtaking views of the spectacular coastline and the opportunity to observe sea birds, seals, puffins and other marine life in their natural habitat. For those that want to be up close with the marine life try sea kayaking, fly fishing or be a lobsterman for a day on Captain Jack's Lobster Adventures.
Play golf while surrounded by ocean vistas, rent a bike, hike to a mountaintop for panoramic ocean views at Camden Hills State Park, stroll flower-bordered gardens or get up close and personal with one of our many area lighthouses. Wednesday nights throughout the summer season the Farnsworth Art Museum has extended hours and the Bay Chamber orchestra performs at the Rockland Strand Theatre.
Autumn on the coast is enchanting, and warm days and crisp nights make the fall colors burst in vivid splendor! The town is filled with scarecrows for the Farnsworth's Scarecrow Festival; the local farms are celebrating open farm days with alpacas, apple picking and cider pressing; and the vineyards are busy picking and crushing the season's grapes. One can enjoy the beautiful fall colors while hiking, biking, sea kayaking, sailing or while on a scenic drive. Travelers 55 years young and up are treated to a special September package. Take advantage of our "A September to Remember Package" available during the entire month of September. This three night package includes lighthouse tours, museum passes, boat trips and an exclusive tour and presentation about Rockland's role in maritime history at the Sail, Power and Steam Museum.
For those with a sense of humor and in search of a spirited Halloween getaway we offer a "Sleep with a Ghost on the Coast" package and many local civic groups offer Spooktacular events! In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Inn hosts a Victorian Tea and Breast Health fair in conjunction with the local hospital. The event is free and offers experts in nutrition, breast self-care, bra fitting, massages and a traditional Victorian tea.
Winter is a special time on the coast of Maine. The crowds are gone, the pace slows and romance is always in season. The inn is decked out in holiday splendor beginning with the Festival of Lights Celebration. There is caroling, extended shopping hours, horse carriage rides, the world's largest Lobster Trap Tree and a Parade of Lights down Main Street! The area boosts snowshoeing or cross country skiing by the water's edge or along groomed woodland trails; downhill skiing at the Camden Snow Bowl - the only ski resort in the USA where you can ski and see the Atlantic Ocean; or climb onto a toboggan and speed down the local 400-foot toboggan chute. For the less adventurous, the Strand Theatre offers live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera House for the winter/spring season. One can always indulge in a snuggle and a glass of wine with that special someone in front of the fire; enjoy eating homemade pie side by side in one of the inn's whirlpool tubs or arrange for an aromatic deep tissue massage as a fabulous way to spend a winter day!
January is also "Pies on Parade" where we join with the other Historic Inns of Rockland to celebrate National Pie Day and offer hundreds of slices of homemade sweet and savory pies as a fundraiser for our local food pantry. In February the inn offers many special packages to help celebrate romance, love like Ground Hog's Day and Valentine's Day.
