The Stable Suite – Casual Sophistication 9 Oct 2018, 8:52 am

In this “Room Spotlight” series of posts, we go into the details of each of our amazing Door County Cottages, Cabins, and Suites at The Chanticleer. This series will allow you to get to know each of our rooms and what makes them unique, and help in your decision as you book your stay

When we began the intensive remodeling project of the original Barn at our Door County Bed and Breakfast, we had a vision for a truly unique suite that allowed our guests to bring the beautiful Door County outdoors inside, while allowing for private and comfortable accommodations. The challenge was to create a room that was cozy during the harsh Door County winters, but open and airy during our amazing summers. When we opened the doors of the Barn and made The Stable Suite available to our guests, it was clear that we nailed it!

We call it “Casual Sophistication”. It means that design of this suite pays homage to the history of the building – with quarry tile and old barn board walls – there’s also an elegant sophistication to the decor, in the form of a four poster, king sized bed, a camel-backed sofa, and a bow-backed tapestry chair. Beyond that, the details of local antiques and carefully chosen decor artifacts are an endless source of wonder for our guests.

You won’t have to leave modern amenities behind in this suite, though. The raised, double whirlpool tub, convenient gas fireplace, and entertainment center ensure that you have plenty to keep you busy during cold winter nights and lazy summer days alike. While we love The Stable Suite for those winter getaways, it is truly amazing in summer, when you can open the double french doors, and invite the outdoors inside with a private terrace surrounded by a lush, lavender and rose garden. The Stables will want to make you stay forever!

The Loft Room – Great Accommodations With An Amazing View 31 Jul 2018, 3:29 pm

In this “Room Spotlight” series of posts, we go into the details of each of our amazing Door County Cottages, Cabins, and Suites at The Chanticleer. This series will allow you to get to know each of our rooms and what makes them unique, and help in your decision as you book your stay

High on top of our 1916 Guest House sits a great room with lots of charm and personality. The Loft Room exceeds expectations and redefines what a Door County Bed and Breakfast can offer. When we rehabilitated this old building 25 years ago, we envisioned this former attic space as a cozy getaway with more than enough amenities to surprise and delight even the most discerning guests.

The bisque pine vaulted ceiling frames the space and creates a unique bedroom hideaway feel, while offering a double whirlpool tub to relax in. The built-in queen sized bed and plush furniture tuck into the walls nicely, adding to the cozy feel but still offering plenty of personal space to relax. The bathroom is so large and bright, it almost seems impossible in this 3rd floor space, and double french doors add an elegant touch. Private, bright and airy, the Loft is a one-of-a-kind suite!

The Rose Room – Elegance On Two Levels! 7 May 2018, 1:26 pm

In this “Room Spotlight” series of posts, we’ll go into the details of each of our amazing accommodations at The Chanticleer. This series will allow you to get to know each of our rooms and what makes them unique, and help in your decision as you book your stay

We utter words like “unique” and phrases like “one of a kind” often when we describe our accommodations. The reason is that each and every one of our suites, cabins, and cottages have their own special kind of magic, and are unlike anything else we – or any other Door County Bed and Breakfast – offer. When it comes to uniqueness, The Rose Room is top of the list. The two elegant levels of this suite offer a living space that is not only gorgeous and amazingly cozy, it’s fun!

The Rose Room offers an experience like a tiny two-story house away from home. Downstairs is a truly relaxing environment – whether you take advantage of the double whirlpool tub or fainting sofa, be sure to light the gas fireplace and let all your cares fade away. The upper level welcomes you to a lovely bedroom with a queen sized, antique, high-backed bed. Just beyond is a lovely, raspberry-colored bathroom and adjacent sun-filled dressing room. Next to the bedroom are a private entrance and terrace, which overlook a sun-filled flower garden.

Last Minute Door County New Year’s Eve Guide 27 Dec 2017, 6:58 pm

The procrastinators among us know the scenario: you’ve put so much effort into your Christmas celebration that you neglected to plan anything for New Year’s Eve. In Door County, there is plenty to do, but the frigid forecast means you better have a plan. Our Door County Bed and Breakfast is booked solid for New Year’s Eve, and while many of our guests may opt to stay in and enjoy the warmth and comfort of our great suites, cabins, and cottages, plenty more will venture out in search of a great time. Here are a few items to help you plan your New Year’s celebration:

Safety first: Transportation

New technology can take a little longer to reach our laid-back Penninsula, but a little-known secret is that Uber has arrived in Door County, although a bit sparingly. Check your app at peak travel times and you should see drivers available, particularly in Sturgeon Bay. Uber makes for an easy and affordable ride to where ever you are going. Another option is our local transportation service, Door 2 Door Rides.

Dinner

There is no shortage of great year-round restaurants in Door County, but it’s advisable to make your reservations soon; open tables are filling up. While there are no guarantees that you’ll get a table at these high-end hot spots, we recommend Chives in Bailey’s Harbor, or Wickman House in Ellison Bay. If you’re planning to play it by ear, consider a restaurant with a large bar area where you can have a drink while you wait for your table. Consider Sonny’s Pizzeria in Sturgeon Bay for a relaxed and fun atmosphere, or venture farther north to a great supper club like Alexander’s.

Drinks and Celebration

There are parties all over the County, but here are a few interesting events to highlight: Door County Brewing Company is always a fun time, and with a new, spacious beer hall and live music on New Year’s Eve, it’s sure to be a lively party.  Sister Bay is throwing a big party, with fireworks and the inaugural “Cherry Drop” held at midnight. This event is put on by Husby’s and Sister Bay Bowl, with many other local bars and restaurants getting in on the action with special menus and entertainment.

After you’ve (hopefully) gotten at least a little sleep, there are plenty of events on the 1st to kick off your 2018 in style. From the Polar Plunge at Waterfront Mary’s to the New Year’s Day Parade in Egg Harbor, a variety of activities are available to you should you decide to brave the cold weather. If not, stay in and light a fire, and enjoy the peace of the Door County Winter season.

The Grand Suite – A Perfect Stay Anytime Of Year! 15 Dec 2017, 1:41 pm

In this “Room Spotlight” series of posts, we’ll go into the details of each of our amazing accommodations at The Chanticleer. This series will allow you to get to know each of our rooms and what makes them unique, and help in your decision as you book your stay

The Grand Suite

The largest of our Guest House rooms presents an open floorplan and ground-level access, combined with unique amenities that make it a great choice for all seasons. The Grand Suite is located in the Guest House, and is easily accessible to those who wish to avoid stairs. Entering through the Guest House lobby area will first present you with The Grand Suite’s spacious bathroom, with a large vanity with chair, as well as an enormous tile and glass block shower. Farther down the short hallway, you’ll take one step down into the massive open floorplan of the main room, with its private sleeping area adjacent to a roomy-yet-cozy living area.

The centerpiece of The Grand Suite is the massive stone fireplace. This feature will serve you well during the winter months, keeping the large room warm and cozy, but is also great to sit around during cool nights during the warmer months. Thoughtfully decorated with plenty of local antiques, The Grand Suite also features a large double whirlpool tub and an upright piano. Enclosed in a pine armoire (and otherwise out of sight), are an entertainment center with TV, Blu-Ray player, and iPod dock, as well as a refrigerator. Slide open the large patio doors to step out onto our pool deck, with a private deck and sitting area – perfect for pool parties, or just soaking up the summer sun or evening air.

We can’t decide whether The Grand Suite is better for cold weather or warm weather, we just know it’s among the best our Door County Bed and Breakfast has to offer for guests who like to have some room to spread out and get comfortable. But don’t just take our word for it, take a look for yourself below!

The Door County Off-Season is Perfect for a Couple’s Getaway. Here are 4 Reasons Why. 29 Nov 2017, 4:27 pm

Door County, being a peninsula in Northeastern Wisconsin, gets pretty chilly in the winter months. For this reason, our great tourist destination is a bit of a ghost town in winter. Despite this, many of our guests consider this off-season time to be ideal for a couple’s visit, and they consider that fact to be a well-kept secret. If you promise to keep this one quiet, I’ll share with you some of the lesser-known activities that keep these reverse-snowbirds coming back, year after year:

Hot Coffee Drinks at Glas, The Green Coffeehouse

A great way to start your day, or a great stop to warm up after brisk outdoor activities, Glas offers great fair-trade coffee and tea, as well as sandwiches and light entrees. Located on the corner of Maple St and Neenah Ave on Sturgeon Bay’s west side, Glas is a cozy place to hang out and use the free wifi, or browse great gift offerings from local artists.

Cross Country Skiing at Potawatomi State Park

Just across Sturgeon Bay from our location is a great state park that flies a bit under the radar, but offers great groomed skiing trails, amazing hiking, and breathtaking views. Potawatomi has miles of easily accessible shoreline, and with winding trails of all difficulty levels, you’ll get a great workout while spending quality time together. Be sure to visit the old ski hill area at the northwest corner of the park: a great place to stop for a rest and to take in the amazing view over Idlewild. For ski rentals, check out Nor Door Sports.

Horseback Riding at Kurtz Corral

Door County winters are unpredictable, and good snow cover is never guaranteed. For a great activity that doesn’t require snow, venture farther up into Door County and visit Kurtz Corral, Door County’s Premier Year-Round Riding Stable. Kurtz offers a variety of different ride choices, as well as a large stable of beautiful horses with unique stories and personalities. After over 50 years of offering great horseback riding to visitors and residents of Door County, Kurtz knows their stuff when it comes to this adventurous and highly enjoyable activity.

Dinner at The Mill Supper Club

No visit to Door County would be complete without visiting one of our great supper clubs, and The Mill is at the top of the list. The cozy, Northwoods atmosphere makes for a unique and romantic dinner for you and your date, and the famous baked chicken and other delicious entrees ensure you’ll have a great experience. Located just north of Sturgeon Bay and only a couple of miles from the Chanticleer, The Mill is a great choice for the last stop on your Door County winter’s day.

Come Back to Your Amazing Room at The Chanticleer to Warm Up!

Of course, the best part of your Door County off-season getaway will always be returning to the Chanticleer for a romantic, cozy evening.
