The Christmas Tour Of B&BsNothing can compare to the Christmas spirit.
The porch, running the full length of the lodge, is filled with rocking chairs. An old porch swing has a prominent location. The view from the porch is breathtaking, and many people come to the porch in slippers and bath robes with cups of tea or coffee to watch the sun rise. Inside the lodge, exposed beams and wormy chestnut walls dominate. The great room has a massive stone fireplace and time polished hardwood floors.
We are located just 30 minutes west of Asheville and border the Blue Ridge Parkway which runs through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are just off Ski Mountain Road which leads to Cataloochee Ski Area, a great recreation in winter. Smokey Shadows Lodge has been the proud host to VIPs from the Smithsonian Institute, McDonald's Association, a chapel for weddings and a star for the filming of Tennessee's 'Fire on the Mountain.' Featured in Blue Ridge Magazine and Log Home Living.

The main lodge provides a great room to relax by the warm fire on cool evenings. For the solitude seekers, there are also two unique cabins with one being over 100 years old.

SAs a child, Ginger would travel from Miami to Maggie Valley each year for vacation. Hikes in the surrounding woods, cookouts and bonfires, home cooked meals, scenic drives through the Smoky Mountains along the breathtaking Blue Ridge Parkway only minutes from the lodge, square dancing in the valley and great souvenir shopping were all cherished memories. Over the years, Ginger and her husband Bud, along with their children, would continue to carry on the Smokey Shadows tradition. Until the day came that Ginger and her family decided to make Smokey Shadows their permanent home and have been reliving childhood memories every day since.
Now, the Shinns dedicate their lives to creating those same memories for all who visit!

Love much,
KellyTo the Shinn family,
A special thank you for all of your hard work last night making Kelly's Birthday such a great experience for everyone. The charm of the lodge combined with the spectacular views and wonderful meal that you served was an evening for all to remember. I am confident that you will see most of the first timers back real soon. Thanks again for doing what you obviously do best - making people happy and comfortable.
