Lafayette is the parish seat of Lafayette Parish, and is an excellent inn destination. An enjoyable vacation could include staying at a Lafayette B&B while visiting Acadian Village, a reconstructed Cajun bayou community (made from moved and reassembled authentic buildings) with a representative collection of Cajun furnishings. Also worth an afternoon is the Alexandre Mouton House Museum. It was home to Louisiana's first Democratic governor, Alexandre Mouton, who once lived in this antebellum town house. The museum contains a collection of antiques, historical documents and old Mardi Gras costumes. Cajundome, most readily known as the home of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns basketball teams, also serves as a convention space. The Paul and Lulu Hillard University Art Museum has a permanent collection consisting of more than 2000 works of art, including paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture and photographs that represent 18th, 19th and 20th century Louisiana, as well as works from around the world. While staying at a local Lafayette bed and breakfast, an excellent dining establishment to try is Lafayette's, which serves consistently fine meals with local Cajun flavor. Less
