Apple Danish Pastry

Pastry:
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg yolk (save egg white)
1/2 cup milk

Filling:
2 (3-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 can Apple Pie Filling

Glaze:
1 egg white, beaten lightly
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2– 3 teaspoons water

  1. Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg yolk and milk, stir well. Divide pastry dough in half. Roll half of dough to 10 x 15 inches. Transfer dough to same size pan. Set aside.
  2. In small bowl, combine cream cheese and sugar; beat until smooth. Add egg; beat well. Spread mixture evenly over rolled pastry. Spoon apple pie filling over pastry.
  3. Roll second half of pastry to fit pan; place over filling, sealing edges. Paint with some of the beaten egg white. Bake 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Mix glaze. Drizzle over warm pastry. Cut into serving sizes.
