Steeped in history, Warrenton boasts number 8 in highest income counties in the US. Warrenton, being about 45 miles from our nation’s capitol has many things to do and see. Every Saturday and Wednesday is the Farmers Market full of locally grown produce and other local delights. Old Town Warrenton is a National Historic District and offers the Warren Green Hotel, the Old Court House, a walking tour and many shops and restaurants. The Old Jail Museum, one of the oldest jails still standing in VA has many artifacts to see within its two buildings. One can take a self guided tour thru the Virginia Civil War Trails. This tour can be taken on foot or by car. Fishing and canoeing are available on the Rappanhannock River as well as picnics and swimming. The Marriott Ranch-Guided Trail ride is about 30 minutes outside the town’s limits and is a great tour showcasing the 4200 acre cattle ranch. Year-round equestrian events throughout the horse laden Fauguier County is fun for visitors with an interest in horses. There are over 5000 horses in the county. The Flying Circus Air Show is a thrill to be seen May thru October. There are also hot air balloon shows and other events thru the year. There are many government and military notables from Warrenton to include John S. Mosby, and William H.F. Payne.
