Mount Hood, the tallest mountain in Oregon, is comprised of 12 glaciers, of which Palmer Glacier is the most notable. The area offers 4600 acres of skiable landscape within Mount Hood National Forest. The area is more than just skiing, however there are six ski areas here. Biking, camping and golfing are also popular. There is also a food and beverage scene, from upscale dining to diner-type offerings. Only 50 miles from Portland, this Cascade Range Mountain makes a great weekend getaway for folks from the Pacific North West. However, those visiting this area and are lovers of the out of doors should put this on the itinerary. A day hike to Mirror Lake should also be part of the visit to Mount Hood. Timberline Trail should be on the hike itinerary; however, the hike can take two to five days depending on the skill level of the hiker.
