New Bedford is a port city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, located about 51 miles south of Boston. The city was originally settled by Portuguese fishermen, and their descendants celebrate Dia de Portugal during the second weekend in June in honor of that fact. Also in June is the St. John's Feast, a major Catholic celebration in New Bedford.
