Purple Gables Bed & Breakfast
Table Of Contents
Our home, Purple Gables, first appears on the town map in 1826 when two small cottages were cobbled together. Additions have accrued through the years shaping our eclectic home into the cozy haven it is today. For many years, students from all over the world have lived with us, each bringing new ideas, new foods, and new memories. They often proudly return with a spouse and children to revisit the time that they spent here. We cherish those visits. Recently, the suite has undergone renovation and redecorating and is available to you for making your own special memories as our bed & breakfast guests.
Purple Gables provides an ideal, smoke-free setting for enjoying the beauty and culture of New England. The lush gardens showcase the best of each season. Enjoy the morning sun beneath the blooming dogwood during early May, sit shaded on the porch with a good book and frosty beverage in July, rustle through the leaves as you begin an autumn walk to town, or watch the dogs frolic in the new fallen winter's snow. This bed and breakfast suite has a private entrance, private full bathroom and a personalized breakfast.
Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Lynda for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Travelers stay for many reasons. Many come when looking for colleges but I also get people interested in Emily Dickinson, the Eric Carle Museum, the Yiddish Book Center, conferences and workshops at Umass, and those visiting friends and family in the area.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
I'm best known for the uniquely elegant suite I offer and the three course breakfasts I deliver to guests in the suite.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
The #1 reason people come to our area is for an education and the extensive art and culture available.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
Most guests say how pleased they are with how beautiful it is.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
One of the best kept secrets is our local swimming hole.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
I'd recommend going to our local movie house for one night, attend a dance or music performance at Umass for a second night, third night hear music at small local venue in Northampton, fourth night I'd suggest a good restaurant and a walk around town in the evening with a stop at the historic burial ground in the center of town to pay a visit to the grave of Emily Dickinson. We also have good community theater options.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Umass, the center of town, historic house museum, library, shops and restaurants are all within a short walk of our place.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
Favorite restaurant for casual is Fresh Side and favorite for a really delicious meal is Bistro 63.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
How many rooms does your inn have?
My bed and breakfast has one suite. The suite can comfortably accommodate 2 or 3 people. I have had 4 or 5 occasionally but prefer 2 or 3.
Do you accept pets?
I do not usually accept dogs because we have 2 dogs of our own and that's enough. I do suggest the Valley Inn for Pets to people traveling with pets.
