The Beauty of Coastal Maine 16 Apr 2015, 11:07 am
Spring is finally in the air in Maine! After what seemed like a never ending winter, most of the snow has melted and the crocuses have bloomed. Last week we had some family visiting for my birthday and decided to take a drive to Mt. Desert Island. Although the park loop road in Acadia National Park has not opened for the season there are still many beautiful sites to see including Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse which is at the southern tip of MDI.

What Do 20, 10, 5 And 2 Mean To LimeRock Inn? 18 Jun 2014, 7:04 pm
Frank Isganitis and PJ Walter, co-owners of the LimeRock Inn, have a lot to celebrate in 2014. July marks the 20th anniversary of LimeRock Inn opening as Rockland’s first B&B, and December 2014 marks their 10th year of ownership. What’s even more meaningful to the co-owners are the smaller numbers which indicate milestones of esteem from their guests. This year (2014) marks the fifth year in a row LimeRock Inn has earned a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, an honor bestowed exclusively to the top ten percent of B&Bs worldwide. It’s also the second year in a row that LimeRock Inn has been named Best B&B in Maine in Down East Magazine readers’ poll. All of these accomplishments and honors will be celebrated with a special gift from the innkeepers to their guests. Throughout July, guests staying at the inn will receive a matted photo of themselves taken at the inn by accomplished photographer, PJ Walter as a special gift and way of saying thank you.
“People say when you love what you do you will never work a day in your life,” says Frank Isganitis, who beyond co-owning the inn sits on the Rockland City Council. “PJ and I feel blessed to have found our passion that has sustained us through ten years of stewardship of LimeRock Inn’s twenty year legacy. So imagine our joy to learn we have received DownEast’s Reader’s Choice Best B&B in Maine for the second year in a row and TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for five years running. Nothing could be more uplifting then this affirmation from our clientele,” finished Isganitis.
Thousands of Down East readers voted in February, March and April for their statewide selections in the Best of Maine Readers’ Poll, and LimeRock Inn made the list as Maine’s Best B&B for the second year in a row. The “Best of Maine” awards occur annually and provide Down East readers the opportunity to nominate the Maine people, places and things that mean the most to them. Based solely on popular vote, the winners represent the best of Maine as identified by the people who know Maine the best: residents and repeat visitors.
The TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments worldwide that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on the site. To qualify for the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on the site. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months. Only ten percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.

Out & About – Asticou Azalea Garden 31 May 2014, 4:51 pm
Asticou Azalea Garden is located in Northeast Harbor, ME on Mt. Desert Island. It was built in 1956 by a lifelong resident named Charles Savage. The inspiration came out of a desire to preserve plants that were being dismantle from a garden at nearby Reef Point Estate. Mr. Savage received financial support from John D. Rockefeller in order to purchase the plants and start the garden. The azalea garden is modeled after a Japanese stroll garden that incorporates many plants native to Maine. Most of the paths through the garden are raked each morning. It gives really serene effect as you walk along the garden paths. It’s amazing to see all the different varieties of azaleas, each in various states of bloom. A trip to this garden is a highly recommended stop on your journey along the coast of Maine.
