Caabins and Candlelight, cabin in the snow

The homes Abe Lincoln grew up in might have been built with logs, but that is about all they have in common with our cabins. These are luxurious cabins, built with modern day techniques which allow you to enjoy the rustic warmth and appeal of logs without sacrificing comfort. What do we mean by "luxurious" cabins? How about features such as a stone fireplace with gas-burning logs, oversized whirlpool bathtub, entertainment center, queen-size bed, oversized shower, double-bowl bathroom vanity, complete kitchen, covered porch and screened deck, gas grill, high-pitched cathedral ceilings, ceramic and plush carpet floorcoverings, and of course, central heat and air conditioning. Listed below are a few more details on some of these features.

One of the first things to grab your attention as you enter your cabin is the striking stone fireplace. It stretches over 15 feet in height at its peak. Offsetting its bold, dominating appearance is a basswood mantel with a hand-carved country scene with astounding intricacy and detail. The fire is started with a flick of a switch, so there are no matches, tinder, kindling, or logs to mess with. It also saves repeated trips out of bed to re-stoke the fire if you decide to leave it burning late at night. We apologize to those interested in impressing their partners with their fire-starting prowess.

If it's relaxation you're after, you've come to the right place. Our luxury whirlpool tubs offer a soaking that goes beyond the ordinary. To begin with, they are oversized corner tubs. So they can comfortably accommodate two people, even if you're a bit on the tall side. And they aren't just bubble-blowers. They boast a powerful 2 horsepower pump and seven adjustable jets. An in-line heater will keep your bath water toasty for even the longest soaks. And if you're concerned about hygiene, our tubs feature a patented system which allows us to clean all of the internal piping between each reservation.

What would a romantic getaway be without a little music to help set the mood. The entertainment center should help in that area including color TVs, DVD players, and VCRs. Please keep our rural setting in mind, however. Our TV and stereo reception might not be what you are accustomed to, so you might want to bring your own discs or devices.

We don't intend for you to spend your getaway slaving over a hot stove, but just in case a romantic candlelight dinner is your idea of starting things off, we've got everything you'll need. Our complete kitchens have full size glass-top stoves, full size refrigerators with icemakers, microwave ovens, automatic dishwashers, automatic drip coffee makers, and all the cookware, tableware, and basic supplies you should need. We even throw in the essentials for a hearty breakfast; including eggs, sausage links, danishes, English muffins, pancake mix, syrup, milk, orange juice, tea, hot cocoa and coffee.

Many of the log buildings constructed today are erected from pre-manufactured "kits" where the logs are cut off-site, labeled, shipped in, and assembled in an attach log "A" to log "B" manner. Some are even built by applying fake log siding to conventionally-framed structures. To construct our cabins, three semi loads of raw, Indiana native poplar logs were trucked in, complete with bark. The logs were then loaded one-by-one onto a portable on-site saw-mill, where the eighteen-inch diameter logs were squared off on three sides. The rough bark was then shaved off the round exterior side of the logs and then the inner bark was hand-peeled with a draw knife. The lumber that was sawn off the logs in order to square the three sides was used on the cathedral ceilings and exterior gables of the cabins.

Our two cabins are located about 250 feet apart on approximately 30 acres in northeastern Montgomery County, Indiana. Over half of the property is covered by native forests, which support a wide variety of wildlife. The property is situated on Sugar Creek, known throughout Indiana for the scenic canoeing it offers and home to a wide variety of fish. The waterway also served as a vital resource for native Americans in this area, who not only used it for the traditional resources offered by rivers and streams, but also found extensive supplies of "churt" exposed along its banks, from which they could fashion arrowheads and spearheads. The area is noted throughout archaeology circles for its historically significant native American sites.
