Rolled Sugar Cookies

From THE MILL HOUSE BED AND BREAKFAST

Cooking Time:

5 to 9 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine ( sometimes I use one stick of each)
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Mix together the sugar, butter, milk, vanilla, and egg until well blended.  Stir in baking powder, salt, and flour until mixed.  Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour.

Heat oven to 400 degrees,  Roll 1/3 of the dough out at a time on lightly floured surface. Cut with floured cookie cutters, 1/4 ish inch thick, place 1″ apart on ungreased cookie sheet ( I use parchment paper or my silpat)

Bake 5-9 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. ( I usually set the timer for  4 minutes, open the oven and rotate my pan, then cook the additional time-  you may have to adjust for your own oven.)  Immediately remove from pan onto wire racks for cooling.  Make sure your cookie sheet is not too warm before placing your next batch on the sheet.  A warm cookie sheet will cause your cookies to spread too quickly and not cook evenly.

Use your favorite glaze or frosting, or just eat them plain!!
