Long Hill Hot Pears & Figs Compote

From LONG HILL BED & BREAKFAST
4 pears or canned pear halves
1/3 C sugar
1/2 C apple juice
1 T butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
6 dried figs, quartered lengthwise
dozen or so craisins (optional)
4 oz vanilla yogurt
1 1/2 T sugar
1/2 banana

(IF using fresh pears: Slice peeled, cored pears into 6 wedges.) Heat 1/3 C sugar, apple juice and butter over moderate heat until the butter melts. Stir in cinnamon and allspice. Let simmer a few minutes. Stir in pears and figs and simmer several minutes. Add craisins if desired. Cover and simmer (do not boil) until ready ­ takes longer if using fresh pears.

Mix yogurt with sugar and keep refrigerated until serving. Serve the fruit warm or at room temp with yogurt sauce. Garnish dish with several slices of banana. Can also add a sprinkling of coconut.
