Tour Linden Vineyards and Other Wineries on Your White Post Getaway

Visit the tranquil landscape that is Linden Vineyards to experience the simple tastes produced here, from rich reds to light whites. Wine tastings are just $5, as of February 2011, but for $15, you can participate in special reserve cellar tastings on the weekends. Sign up when you get there, and you can sample special single vineyard wines and older vintages. If tours are your thing, take one on Saturdays and Sundays for a free in-depth educational walk-through of the vineyard and cellar. Tours last about 45 minutes. If you visit during the week, you'll find that Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in April through November are the quietest, with weekends getting a bit busier. Hours are generally 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Once you've enjoyed a meal at your quaint White Post bed and breakfast, head to Fox Meadow Winery, which features 10 to 12 wines on a rotating basis. Group wine tasting rates are $8 in the tasting room or $10 per person for a tasting in the wine cellar. Be sure to call ahead with group reservations. While here, enjoy a picnic on the deck or in the designated picnic table area. Find out how particular foods and wines interact, pairing delicious treats with your favorite vino. The vineyard hosts many annual events such as Chocolate Daze and Chili Days, both in February, along with Chardonnay Days in March. Purchase wines such as the sweet Freezeland Red and the dry 2008 FMW Syrah or the white wine semi-dry 2009 FMV Pinot Gris.

Not too far away is the Bluemont Vineyard, with tasting fees at $5 per person. Pair your wines with foods like Amish farmer cheese, chocolate, spreads, imported salami, warm baguettes, hot soup and stews, sandwiches and chowders. Bluemont features a fireplace, seating indoors and out, and even kids' activities. Leashed dogs are welcome. Sample and purchase wines like 2008 Viognier, 2007 Merlot Reserve, The Strawberry, The Peach and The Blackberry. Take a private tour or a group tour, but call to make a reservation first. The Bluemont makes the perfect backdrop for your wedding, private party or rehearsal dinner in the cellar or the stable. Stop in at the Lore, a small shop featuring one-of-a-kind items like garden statues, home accents, garden decor and antiques. This vineyard sits on the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering panoramic views of the Virginia countryside.
