Lovill's Creek Lake is a man-made lake that is maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Fisheries. Located near Cana, this 55-acre lake is home to many species of fish including catfish, bass and bluegill, making it a favorite for local fishermen. Bring your boat and take advantage of the public boat ramp on the lake. There are fishing piers for those who don't have a boat. You can hike on the trail around the lake and enjoy the wildlife and beautiful views of the mountains in the distance. Have a picnic lunch along the shore and go swimming in the waters of the lake. There are picnic shelters available, as well as restrooms. The area is open for day use until 10:00 p.m.

The Blueridge Parkway runs through Cana and throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. The parkway is designed for visitors to take in the views while traveling no more than 45 miles per hour. There are many towns along the way, as well as many overlooks, trails, picnic areas and visitor centers for all to enjoy. Mile marker 202.9 near Cana notes the area's rural setting with its views of fields. The parkway continues with many opportunities for outdoor activities such as bicycling, boating, fishing, photography, birdwatching and much more in the beautiful mountains. Call ahead to check on any road closures along the parkway.

The Donald C. Ayers Orchard offers a family friendly place to enjoy the day. You can pick your own fresh fruit. They grow about two dozen varieties of apples and a variety of peaches, as well as cherries. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They welcome hikers and picnickers to take advantage of the beautiful orchards. The orchards are located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making for some beautiful scenery.

The Old Country Store Museum was once a thriving store in the 1940s. The store has been refurbished and reopened as a museum that is a reminder of the past. You will see lots of items from the 1940s and '50s, including an old wooden cash register. This is a great place to learn about the history of the area, including genealogy records. The outside of the store is lined with old metal signs advertising RC Cola, Pepsi Cola and other items. This is a family friendly place that will take you back in time. Visit the store from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The store is not far away from your Cana inn.
