Brattleboro Museum and Art Center

The Brattleboro Museum and Art Center is situated in Brattleboro which is about 10 miles from your Newfane Bed and Breakfast. You can leave right after breakfast so that you will have sufficient time to visit this museum and others too. Reshaping Reality is an exhibit that features the creations of 11 artists transforming the ordinary into art, recycling and transferring ordinary objects into multimedia installations. The O.Winston Link exhibit is a collection of photos of steam locomotives by O. Winston Link with special reflectors and flashbulbs. The Stephen Knapp "Lightpaintings" exhibit is one that you should not miss. The lightpaintings are generated with white light traveling through a series of cut glass shapes that have been treated with metallic coating. The light that emanates from the bits of glass is spectacular. Guided tours are available on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a small fee. The Brattleboro Museum is open from Thursday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Estey Organ Museum

The Estey Organ Museum is located about 10 miles from the Newfane Inn and is one of the places you should visit with your family. The Estey Organ Museum was created so that people can know and appreciate the work of the Estey Organ Company. The company is famous for its pipe, reed and electronic organs. The museum has exhibits on the chronology of the Estey Organ Company, various exhibits, tools, reed, pipe and electronic organs.

The Horatio Colony Museum is located in Keene, NH, which is about 12 miles from Chesterfield. The Horatio Colony Museum is located in a stately Federal styled house which was the residence of Horatio Colony. The library has beautiful furniture and oriental rugs. Next to the fireplace there is a wooden cigar store Indian, which was the from Horatio Colony's imagination for his novel "Free Forester". Some of the other items that you will see at the museum are various sacred images, metal napkin rings, beautiful inkwells, cribbage boards and other exquisite utensils dating back several hundred years. The Horatio Colony Museum is open to the public from May 1 to October 12 from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge to enter the museum and if you are traveling as a group, you can call in advance and make arrangements for a tour.
