Bear Butte
Meade County, SD

Bear Butte is perhaps the most important state park in South Dakota's history, especially to the Native Americans. Some of the most notable visitors to Bear Butte include Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, and Red Cloud. Bear Butte is well known for a variety of religious ceremonies that take place all throughout the year. Inside the park you can take part in a variety of activities including horseback riding, boating, hiking and fishing. On the summit side of the park you can see a herd of buffalo that roams along the base of the mountain and you can visit the education center. If you plan to visit Bear Butte the only thing that you need to remember is to leave any religious offerings that you see alone and to respect any worshippers that you might run into. To reach Bear Butte from Faith, travel about an hour towards Sturgis.
