Visit Sanborn Town Forest in Sanbornton

Sanbornton Town Forest is a small recreation area that runs along Eastern Hill Road in New Hampshire. You can climb Sanbornton Mountain or hike along one of the streams in the forest. There are many other interesting places to visit while in the area.

Hermit Lake is a 220-acre lake just northwest of Sanbornton Town Forest. There are public boat ramps on the lake as well as areas where you can put a canoe in the water. You can access the lake off of Highway 132 where there is a beach area for visitors to enjoy. You can have a picnic or walk one of the many trails around the lake. The maximum depth of the lake is about 50 feet, making it great for catching small- and largemouth bass, catfish, sunfish and more. Relax on the lake before heading back to your Sanbornton bed and breakfast.

Ahern State park is located just east of Sanbornton State Park. Bring your fishing pole and enjoy the 3,500 feet of shoreline that borders the lake. There are beach and picnic areas to enjoy. You can take a walk on one of the trails, or even ride your bike. The park is open year round, but there are no staff members on duty. You will find plenty of parking, bathrooms and beautiful lake views at Ahern State Park.

Mohawk Snowmobile Club

The Mohawk Snowmobile Club is a great place to experience the beauty of the New Hampshire landscape. The snowmobile trail curves through the countryside, skimming the borders of Sanbornton Town Forest. The club has many events including family gatherings, parties and more throughout the year. Membership is available for $20 for the whole year. The club prides itself on its high safety standards and promoting the sport of snowmobiling.

Pirate's Cove is a fun place to take the whole family. It has lots of games, putt-putt golf, bumper boats and bank shot basketball. They are easily located off Route 3 southeast of Sanbornton Town Forest. You will feel like you are in a pirate's cove at this waterfront retreat. It's open from mid-May through October, and admission starts at $7.50 for adults, as of 2011. Visit from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. before heading back to your Sanbornton inn for the night.

After you explore Sanbornton Town Forest, stop in at Our Family Tree Restaurant for some good food. The restaurant offers a family friendly environment and home-cooked meals. The restaurant is open Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday nights it serves dinner until 8:00 p.m. You can order breakfast all day. In the summer, you can enjoy the bar and ice cream parlor on the outside deck.
