Follow the Kentucky Quilt Trail from Mount Sterling

Mount Sterling is one of the many stops along the Quilt Trail in Kentucky. The Quilt Trail is a trail of barns and shops with a quilt design painted onto their outer walls. These quilts are often painted in memory of someone special.

The Sterling Thimble Quilt Shop is the first stop on the Quilt Trail near Mount Sterling. The shop has just about any quilting supplies you might need, as well as a wide variety of patterns and fabrics. This privately owned business prides itself in customer service and is a great place to get ideas for a quilt, or get help on the project you're working on. The shop is located in a country setting, and the staff is very friendly. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Bramble Ridge Orchard

The Bramble Ridge Orchard is the next stop on the Quilt Trail. This orchard is just west of your Mount Sterling bed and breakfast in an old blue barn that has been restored and painted baby blue. Their quilt, displayed on the front of the barn, has the tree of life pattern reminiscent of the apple trees in the orchard nearby. The orchard contains 23 different kinds of apples and peaches. Stop in at the shop to buy some fresh apple cider, cider donuts, caramel apples, fried apple pies and many other homemade products depending on the season. You can take a tour of the orchard and enjoy a variety of fun activities such as the apple slingshot, wagon rides, beehives, a maze and more. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from April through October. They are also open for limited hours on Sundays in September and October.

Berryman's Tasty Treats is a great place to stop as you follow the Quilt Trail south of town. Berryman's is a small, family owned business that serves a variety of foods reminiscent of home cooking. The shop walls are covered in memorabilia from the past such as old photographs and papers. The service is friendly, and the food is good. Prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area. At mealtime, the place can become crowded, so you may need to plan extra time before heading out to Firefly Farm where the next quilt is displayed.

The Hope Hill Children's Home is the site of the star pattern quilt hanging. The children's home has been helping families in the community for more than five decades. The Hope Hill complex works primarily with troubled teenage girls, offering them treatment and care. Hope Hill has many success stories and accepts donations from anyone who can spare it. The star quilt design is a symbol of the beacon of light that Hope Hill has been to the community. The home is just down the road from your Mount Sterling inn.
