Trinidad Lake provides rich and abundant fishing grounds, and is stocked with 50,000 trout each year. One of the more popular things to do in Trinidad, fishing is permitted everywhere on the lake except on the dedicated boat launching and docking area. Other fun activities on the lake itself are jet skiing and waterskiing. Trinidad Park has many trails that take you through grasslands, forests, ponds and cliffs. It provides a challenging and fast workout for the professional skater with its 120-foot flat wall, but can also accommodate amateurs and young ones. Those who don't want some action can watch from the bleachers and picnic tables surrounding the park.

For golf enthusiasts, this is one of the best things to do in Trinidad. A beautiful golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, it takes players to the breathtaking scenery of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Fisher's Peak and Spanish Peaks. It was named by "Golf Digest" as 2008's #3 Best New Golf Course. This 18-hole par 72 course has generous fairways and large greens which wind up into a valley before going back to the Cougar Canyon by the lake. A mesmerizing island of green greets you on its famous 16th hole.

The Bloom Mansion, Baca House, Santa Fe Trail Museum and historic gardens are what is known as the Trinidad History Museum, the main attraction of Trinidad. The 1870 Baca House is a Greek revival house, while the 1882 Bloom Mansion is a Second Empire Victorian mansion. This should be at the top of your list of things to do in Trinidad. The Santa Fe Trail Museum is located in a building that originally housed the hired help of Baca House. The whole tour takes about two to three hours.

Near your Trinidad Inn is the former Jaimeson Department Store with its tin ceilings and horseshoe-shaped mezzanine. It now houses the 250-plus piece artwork collection of Arthur Roy Mitchell, who was a popular illustrator of Western pulp magazines. It also includes works of his friends. The museum is open from May to September.
