A Guide to the Parks in St. Jacobs, ON

St. Jacobs is a small village in Ontario in the heart of Mennonite country. The town has many quaint shops, restaurants, theaters and more. While you're in the area, stop in at one of the nearby parks or outdoor attractions before heading back to your St. Jacob's bed and breakfast for the night.

Chicopee Tube Park

Chicopee Tube Park is one of the most exciting parks in the St. Jacobs area. You can do all sorts of activities in the park such as zip lines, tube runs, the Eurobungy trampoline and the spiderweb. The Eurobungy trampoline is the newest addition to the park and is a gravity defying activity that allows you to jump up to 25 feet in the air. The Spiderweb is a tower of web that you must work through to the top. The tube runs involve waterless mats that give the feeling of snow tubing. You can purchase individually for each ride, or get an all access two hour pass for $20. There are also combo packages available. During the summer, the park is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It's open until 9:00 p.m. on Friday nights. The park is only open on weekends during off seasons.

Waterloo Park is located in the heart of Waterloo, which is just south of St. Jacobs. The park has 111 acres of land available for many types of recreation. It has baseball and soccer fields, as well as several playground areas. There is even an animal farm and Victorian garden in the park. The park's bandstand is often the site of concerts, fundraisers and other events. The park is freckled with historic markers throughout, such as the site of Waterloo's first schoolhouse or the old Grist mill. The park is open all day, closing from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Bingeman's Big Splash is a water park near St. Jacobs with rides such as the cyclone and torpedo which shoot passengers into the water. There is a wave pool and lots of water slides. Enjoy the family playground area, beach volleyball, paintball, go-carts and even canoeing in the nearby river. Play a round of mini golf before heading back to your St. Jacob's inn. Kids will love Funworks, the largest indoor playground in the area. The park is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the summer months. Day passes are $26.95 for the 2011 season. Go-carts and canoeing are extras. There are special events in the park from time to time.

Horseback Adventures

Horseback Adventures is a great way to spend the day outdoors. You can take a 45-minute trail ride for $40. They have one, two and four hours rides, as well as 15-minute pony rides for the younger kids. Call ahead to make reservations for trail rides. Ask about their wagon and sleigh rides. Horseback Adventures is open year round.
