The city of Saint Helena, CA, is located about 65 miles from San Francisco, in the heart of Napa Valley's wine country. Its main street is lined with restaurants and shops, while the outlying areas of town are home to numerous vineyards and wineries. Several of the vineyards in Saint Helena can be visited by appointment only, while others are open to the public during winery business hours.

Beringer Vineyards started as early as 1868, and is Napa Valley's oldest functioning winery. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a number of winery and vineyard tours, in addition to informational seminars. Visitors can enjoy exploring the beautifully landscaped grounds, or relax in the tasting room.

St. Clement Vineyards

While the St. Clement house has existed since 1878, its stone winery built directly behind the house was not constructed until 1976. This boutique-style winery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and is a short drive from your Saint Helena bed and breakfast. Guests can opt to visit tasting rooms only, or embark on tours that include wine tasting, cheese and chocolate sampling, plus an informational tour of the winery and vineyards.

Flora Springs Winery and Vineyards

This Saint Helena winery and vineyard was founded in 1978, and as of 2011, has spread to cover more than 650 acres. Flora Springs offers two main tasting and tour areas. There is The Room just outside of Saint Helena, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. No reservations are required for this tasting location, unless you have a group of eight people or more. It features a rooftop lounge with panoramic views of the outlying vineyards, as well as an outdoor courtyard area and private cave-like rooms where visitors can try barrel samples. The second tour and tasting area is located at the Flora Springs Estate. Visitors can embark on a 90-minute guided tour that showcases family history, winemaking practices and vineyard farming. Wine tasting is also available on this tour, and guests will sample from oak barrels and recently released bottles.

Not far from your Saint Helena inn, the Casa Neustra Winery and Vineyards offers tours by appointment only. Tours are booked Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phrase "casa nuestra" means "our house" in Italian, and this winery attempts to make every visitor feel at home. Casa Neustra was established in 1979 and produces 12 different wines and more than 2,000 cases annually. Its farm and vineyard is also 100 percent organic.

Tamber Bey Vineyards features a tasting room that's open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It's known for Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Bordeaux blends. Tamber Bey has an indoor and outdoor tasting venue in Saint Helena. Its estate property is located a few miles outside of Saint Helena in Yountville. Tours of the estate are by appointment only.
