The Donald E. Davis Arboretum is an educational facility that offers visitors a relaxing environment to explore the habitats and species native to Alabama. There are over 300 species of plants that grow in a variety of habitats such as stream bottoms, ponds, hillsides, bogs and prairies. The arboretum is open daily from sunrise to sunset and there is no charge for admission. The beautiful grounds are the setting of many special events. There is a pavilion available upon request.

Town Creek Park is located just south of the university in the middle of Auburn. The park is beautiful with its open fields and wooden swings. The main attraction is the walking trail that weaves in and out of the trees around a pond and the creek. There are restrooms and a pavilion for picnics. You will notice the original silo and shed from the dairy farm that once stood on the grounds. There is also a bike trail for visitors to ride. The 95-acre park continues to see improvements as a playground, amphitheater and more pavilions are being constructed as of 2011.

Kiesel Park

Kiesel Park is Auburn's largest park, located just southwest of the city. The walking trail is over 2 miles long and takes visitors through the 124-acre park. The main pavilion near the entrance is beautiful with its Greek Revival style architecture from the 1850s. The park is known for its off-leash dog area which is fenced in for pets. As long as you supervise, your dogs can play without any constraints. There is a garden area with special plants and lots of beautiful trees throughout the park. There is a large pond with benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the water. The park is the location for many special events such as Cityfest and other celebrations throughout the year.

Surfside Water Park

The Surfside Water Park is an exciting place to experience Auburn's outdoors. The park has a wave pool, lazy river, body flumes, a speed slide and a kiddie pool. There is something for everyone, including a concession stand and a gift shop. Restrooms, showers and storage lockers are available. All lifeguards are Red Cross certified. The park opens at 10:00 a.m. daily, closing at 6:00 p.m. during the week and 7:00 p.m. on weekends. General admission for 2011 is $22.67 per person. Spend time in the water before heading back to your Auburn inn for the night.
