Drawn to the mystery and romance of the sea? Then consider a B&B inn, not on the ocean, but here, in eastern Wisconsin. Let's begin with the Door County peninsula, affectionately known by many as the "Cape Cod of the Midwest." It's easy to see why -- 250 miles of shoreline, apple and cherry orchards, artists' enclaves and natural landscape golf courses, with five spectacular state parks dotting the landscape. In Sturgeon Bay, the gateway to Door County, shipbuilders and giant shipyards provide a foil for an artful downtown community.
Is there a maritime history buff among your group? The city of Manitowoc, with its maritime museum, the largest in the Great Lakes, stands as testament to exploration and the rigors of the waters, from early wooden sailing ships to WWII submarines.
There is another city of note in this region, and its very name conjures up images of legends, not of the seas, but of the turf. Green Bay, home of the Green and Gold, our beloved Packers. A spectacular renovation of Lambeau Field and the Packer Hall of Fame calls for a pilgrimage to the site by any person claiming to be a true football fan.
