A trip through Central Wisconsin River Country is a trip for the
traveler who loves diversity. Our southernmost city of Spring Green brings
to mind classic experiences such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, The
American Players Shakespearean Theatre Group, and
House on the Rock.
Further along the dynamic Wisconsin River in and around
Sauk City, Lodi,
and Merrimac, eagle watching is
simply awesome. Other not to be missed
experiences in this area include the Merrimac Free Ferry
and the Wollersheim Winery, where daily tours and wine tasting tempt discerning palates.
Reedsburg, in the heart of bicycling country,
also features the Norman Rockwell Museum, and close by in
Baraboo is the Circus World Museum
and Lake State Park. Baraboo is also very near
Wisconsin Dells, a major destination for many tourists
throughout the USA and abroad. The Dells
is one of three areas on the globe that has Precambrian rock
formations. During the "season", continuous boat tours journey up and down the
breathtaking Wisconsin River transporting fascinated crowds of people. Going
up river on one of the cruise boats on a warm night to the spectacular
Winnebago Indian Ceremony at Stand Rock, and coming back down under a full
moon moves the hearts of those who have chosen this route. Witch's
Gulch, with its sandstone rock formations towering straight up hundreds of feet is
a "must see" also, as well as the Winnebago Trading Post and Museum
along North River Road. The impressive International Crane Foundation
is also in the Dells area. And the commercial aspects of Wisconsin Dells
may interest some; especially those families with children. These
include water parks, water shows, miniature golf and of course,
shopping!
For our winter visitors, Portage offers the famous
Cascade Mountain Ski Resort, and further north, during the summer months, one can bask
in the pristine beauty of Green Lake and even play some
golf on its
championship courses. Green Lake also hosts many celebrations and the
Princeton Flea Market, which occurs every Saturday May through October.
While you're in the Wautoma, Wisconsin Rapids, and
Manawa areas, please stop by the Wisconsin Rapids Visitor and Convention Center. They will want to inform you of the paper mill tours and periodic cranberry festivals. Manawa is a one hour drive from Wisconsin Rapids and is the well known for the Mid-Western Rodeo.
The Iola area is a boundless source of natural beauty at its finest,
along with great fishing. Also, every July for the past twenty some
years, Iola has hosted the Midwest's largest antique automobile show.
Stevens Point and Wausau are situated in the northernmost part of the
region. Rib Mountain State Park, the Point
Brewery, a multitude of museums,
and the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point are located there.
Farther on down the road the Waupaca Chain O'Lakes area calls to
those travelers who love the crystal clearness of this long
chain of lakes, not to mention those zany, fun filled Crystal
River Trips.
Our innkeepers are waiting to treat you to their hearty breakfasts
and spiffy accommodations and to inform you about the exciting
diversity and countryside throughout central Wisconsin.
