The Rittenhouse Inn, Bayfield's first Bed and Breakfast, is also known as a Small Elegant Hotel or Country Inn. In addition to a full service gourmet restaurant, the Inn offers a variety of enticing lodging options, allowing you to choose the one that best matches the Bayfield experience you desire.
Dreaming of a romantic escape? Choose one of the inviting whirlpool rooms, complete with wood burning fireplace and private bath. Celebrating a special occasion? Add fresh flowers, homemade sweets, or a bottle of bubbly! Want to enjoy some of Bayfield's best views of Lake Superior? Try one of our charming lake view rooms and enjoy the cozy, comfortable elegance of a time gone by. The Inn is comprised of 20 guest rooms and suites located in three historic Bayfield buildings: the Rittenhouse Inn, the Chateau Boutin, and the Rittenhouse Cottage.
For those with families or groups, home rentals are a great option. The Rittenhouse Cottage sleeps up to 6, and the Chateau Boutin has 7 guest rooms, all with fireplaces and two with whirlpool tubs. Standing proudly in the heart of Bayfield, Wisconsin, the Old Rittenhouse Inn, established in 1975, is Bayfield's first bed and breakfast, and is counted among the great inns of North America.
House guests and visitors alike are welcome to enjoy the spectacular view of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands from one of the Midwest's best front porches: a large wraparound veranda filled with geraniums, petunias, fushias, a porch swing, and comfortable wicker furnishings. Inside you'll find a gourmet restaurant and lodging accommodations including 12 guest rooms and suites. Each room has a private bath, with most featuring Lake Superior views, fireplaces, and whirlpools.

The Rittenhouse Inn Restaurant
The Rittenhouse Inn Restaurant offers guests a rare combination of excellent food, great service, and a casual yet elegant atmosphere. From hearty country breakfasts to elaborate multi-course dinners, our restaurant always uses local, regional, and organic products in season. We are happy to accommodate special dietary needs with advance notice.
Say good morning with a delicious breakfast served in the elegant dining rooms of 301 Rittenhouse Restaurant. House guests are offered a complimentary continental-plus breakfast of coffee, tea, or juice and a fruit course. A basket of freshly-baked muffins and pastries are also served along with a selection of homemade Rittenhouse Gourmet™ jams and jellies. And choice of granola or steel-cut oatmeal with cinnamon, raisins, and brown sugar is sure to help you start your day right.
An upgrade to a full breakfast includes entrée selections such as pancakes, homemade cinnamon-swirled French toast topped with berries and whipped cream, eggs and omelets prepared to order, and delicious specialty scrambles. In addition, an array of side dishes offers a choice of bacon, Italian sausage, a fillet of Lake Superior fish, country potatoes, or our own spicy lamb chorizo sausage. Breakfast is open to the public. Reservations are recommended, but not required.
A Special Place
The Old Rittenhouse Inn and Le Chateau Boutin are lovely settings for a wedding ceremony or reception for groups of two to 125 guests. Throughout each year we are home to many unique and beautiful ceremonies. You may choose to exchange your vows in the music room, on the carved oak staircase in the foyer, a porch filled with hanging baskets of flowers overlooking the lake, or in our fountain garden & pergola on the grounds of Le Chateau. Whatever your wish, we can assist you every step of the way.
Mystery Dinners
Step back in time with our exciting Mystery Dinners! Your party of seven couples will enjoy playing detective as you savor a 6-course gourmet dinner and attempt to solve the mystery. Expect a lot of fun and laughter at the Mystery Dinner as your waiter, Rex Butler, serves a series of intriguing clues, along with a 6-course feast. The guest list includes prominent Bayfield citizens, mysterious out-of-towners, and resident oddballs. Anyone might have done it... it could have been you! Packages include lodging two nights for seven couples at Le Chateau Boutin, full breakfast each morning, sherry reception, and private Murder Mystery Dinner at the 'Island View Hotel.' Available mid-week and weekends, November through June. Call our Events Coordinator for more on this outrageously fun package, and learn about special weekday incentive pricing.
Policies
Deposits: A non-refundable deposit equal to the first night's lodging is required to secure a reservation. We accept Visa, Master Card, and Personal Checks.
Cancellations: Cancellations at least 10-days prior to arrival are subject to a $25 fee. The fee is deducted from the deposit and the balance refunded in the form of a Rittenhouse gift card. Deposits for cancellations less than 10-days prior to arrival are non-refundable, unless the room is re-rented, in which case the lesser $25 fee applies and a Rittenhouse gift card will be issued for the remaining balance of the deposit.
Early check-outs are considered cancellations and are charged at full rate, unless the room is re-rerented. Please double-check your dates and plan accordingly.
Travel Insurance: Please note that the Rittenhouse Inn can not be responsible for unused rooms due to late or canceled airline flights, family emergencies, threat of bad weather and other travel-related mishaps, or for changes in plans which shorten your stay. Vacation Insurance is available from several providers online to inexpensively protect you against covered unexpected events. We recommend Travel Guard.
Please note: A 2-night minimum stay is required for most special event weekends and some holidays. Sat-ONLY stays incur an additional $25 charge.
Special Event Deposits: A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required to secure a reservation for special events. Visa, Master Card, and Personal Checks accepted.

No Pets: In consideration of our guests with pet allergies, we ask that you make other boarding arrangements for your pets during your stay with us.
Smoke Free: The Old Rittenhouse Inn has a No Smoking policy throughout its dining rooms, guest rooms, and common areas. Smoking is allowed outdoors and on our porches. We thank you for your cooperation.
No Candles: For the safety of all our guests and to preserve our antiques and whirlpool surfaces, the Rittenhouse Inn strictly prohibits the use of candles in guest rooms.
