Introduction
The Barbican is located in the historic waterfront district, one block to the Bay or downtown; walking distance to dining, shopping, art galleries, museums, theater and beach; and minutes by car to all Door County attractions.
This exquisite Door Country Inn consists of two restored turn of the century estates and a historic commerce building. They feature large beautiful two room guest suites that are individually decorated and furnished with early English antiques.
Two of the homes were owned by L.M. Washburn, a local lumber baron. The Victoria House, the larger of the two, was Washburn's residence built in the 1870s. The other house, known as the Gaede House, was built for his daughter Emily Washburn Gaede as a wedding gift in 1904. Both still retain their original architectural character and integrity.
The Corner House, a Sturgeon Bay landmark listed on the National Register of Historical Places is the largest and oldest of the three homes. Nelson R. Lee, a Civil War veteran, built the home in 1867. A picture of Nelson Lee, found during renovations, can be seen in the foyer of the Corner House.
Voted Wisconsin's Friendliest Small Town in a readers poll in Wisconsin Trails magazine, Sturgeon Bay is nestled between Lake Michigan and the waters of Green Bay. Sturgeon Bay offers an array of unique gift shops, wonderful restaurants and cafes. The Miller Art Center, Door County Museum and Maritime Museum are all within walking distance of the inn.
Winter is a celebration in Door County. There are several winter festivals that run through January and February. Cross-country skiing, ice-skating, snowmobiling and sleigh rides are just some of the activities to fill your winter days. No matter what the season, there is always something to see and do in beautiful Door County!
