The island is accessible from either the Washington mainland or Victoria/Sydney, B.C. by taking an enchanting ferry ride through the Puget Sound and Straits of San Juan de Fuca. Enjoy breathtaking island scenery as you pass by hundreds of islands on the car/passenger Washington State Ferry System from Anacortes, located approximately 80 miles north of Seattle, or from Sydney/Victoria on Vancouver Island, B.C.
As an alternative to the State Ferry System, Paraclete Charter Service in Anacortes, WA provides private charter passenger ferry service to San Juan Island, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Passenger only ferry service is offered directly from Seattle to the town of Friday Harbor, on San Juan Island, by the Victoria Clipper, or directly from Port Angeles, WA or Victoria by the Victoria Express.
Alternatively, if you are coming from Seattle or SeaTac Airport and want to get to the islands in the least amount of time so you can have the maximum time to explore our spectacular island, you can enjoy a most exhilarating ride on either a seaplane (approximately 40 minutes) operated by Kenmore Airlines out of Lake Union or by a propjet (approximately 20 minutes) out of Boeing Field.
San Juan Airlines flies from Anacortes and Bellingham to Friday Harbor in about 15 minutes. Rental cars are available through M&W Auto in Friday Harbor.
Lastly, if you prefer to neither drive or fly, but wish to take the ferry from Anacortes, let Island Airporter Shuttle and Bellair Shuttle Service do the driving for you and take you by charter bus to and from SeaTac directly to the ferry landing at Anacortes.
Should you travel on any of these services to our island without a car, we offer complimentary pick up service at the ferry dock or the airport and will arrange for your island transportation during your stay on San Juan Island.
We'd be happy to help you navigate your way through each of these transportation websites and help you plan your trip to our island.
