Elevation and Seasonal Information
Most folks are surprised to discover Leavenworth is situated at just 1100 feet. This low elevation, combined with our eastern proximity to the Cascades, provides guests four distinct seasons to play.
Fall
Late September, all of October and into early November bring on the leaf change. Hiking is still available in the lower elevations. It's a stunning time of year to enjoy the colors. From roadside stands, take just picked apples and pears home to friends.
Spring
March brings back the geese and the ducks in the migration and songbirds to the refuge. Spring creates a double season: Winter is in full effect at the higher elevations. You can still cross country, down hill, and snowshoe. On the valley floor, guests bring out the bikes and take lower elevation hikes. Take your pick!
Winter
Typically, we have a three month winter beginning in December (just in time for the thousands of Christmas lights) and ending the last of February. Night time temperatures range from 10°-20°.
Normal daytime highs vary from 25°-45°, with an occasional sub zero snap thrown in. Because Leavenworth is nestled so tightly in the Icicle Valley, chilling winter winds are not a factor. snows fall gently straight down. Imagine that!
Summers
Summer happens from June through September in the Icicle Valley. All but the highest trails are typically snow-free. Hiking and biking options abound. The wildflowers dazzle and the days are long. Temperatures range from a high of 85°-95° to 50°-60° for lows with little humidity. Temperatures above 100° are rare.
Road Biking
We have great road biking in the Icicle Valley. Our population base is small, there is no industry beyond apples. Read: few cars. Your room comes with two Specialized Mountain Bikes. A Cannondale Tandem is also available. Generally, if you stay in the valley, the roads are flat. Heading out of the valley, roads start gaining altitude quickly. But no worries....you're on vacation and what goes up must come......
