Introduction
Welcome to Lucky Mud, a hidden paradise in the remote Willapa Hills of SW Washington. Dine on locally-grown food . . .
In a home that was custom-designed for bed-and-breakfast privacy and comfort. Our 40-acre homestead is groomed and wild.
It's yours to explore!
"And I was some of the Mud that got to sit up and look around. Lucky me, Lucky Mud!"
- Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Cat's Cradle
Architecturally designed as a bed and breakfast, Lucky Mud's "green" inn is heated with under-floor hot water, and the four guest rooms are earth-banked for climate comfort and valley views. The Cottage at Lucky Mud has a cozy wood stove. Step back in time in a tiny county with no stoplights! Lucky Mud is up the Skamokawa Valley from the Columbia River estuary and an ideal base for side trips to the WA or OR coasts, Mt. St. Helens, and the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. . . or
--simply relax by the pond, play disc golf, and explore our ferny forest.
"Warm, friendly hosts, wonderful food, music, and conversation in an idyllic Walden Pond setting."
Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., or earlier if requested, and is prepared for each individual. Sunrise makes the bread, his famous whole wheat cibata and foccacia. Freshly ground, dark roast coffee flows all morning long. The breakfast menu always includes Jessica's beautiful fruit cup, much of it from our garden; selections like Eggs Berkeley with our local valley eggs and local Tillamook extra sharp cheddar cheese; or our own whole wheat blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions. We are glad to accommodate.
Dinners are by appointment and typically include a garden salad (our own organically grown produce in season); entrées like VERY fresh Chinook salmon; chicken breast stuffed with ricotta, dried apricots, lemon zest, and fresh basil, dressed with a white wine, sour cream and lemon sauce; New York cut steak rubbed with olive oil and garlic; vegetarian stir fry over Basmati rice; and Italian dishes like Tuscan sausage in a rich red wine sauce over polenta or penne with baby green beans and homemade pesto. Please feel free to bring your own wine. Desserts are created by Jessica-the-dessert-goddess. We'll ask for your preferences and plan the meal for you. Each dinner will be between $20 and $30 plus tax.
We are proud to be included in the 2007 edition of Best Places Northwest: "In the middle of nowhere,
and that's the point!"
