Cathlamet is the second oldest town in Washington and there are many interesting historic sites to visit. The County Museum displays a "buy-boat", a boat that once purchased salmon from gillnetters on the lower Columbia River and also a Shay locomotive used in the logging industry. Downtown Cathlamet is within easy walking distance to a secluded, protected harbor and full-service marina at the mouth of the Elochoman River where boats launch for salmon and sturgeon fishing on the Lower Columbia River and yachts and fishing boats can moor overnight.
Birdwatching, bicycling and discovering quaint churches and other older buildings are just some of the many relaxing pastimes on Puget Island, just across the bridge from Cathlamet on Highway 409 where a toll ferry crosses into Oregon.
