Introduction
Commander's Beach House, originally built in 1934 in the Colonial Revival Style, was intended as the residence for the Commanding Medical Officer of the U.S. Quarantine Station maintained here at Point Hudson. Over the years, as the property changed hands, a number of Coast Guard, Navy, and Army Commanding Officers and their families have occupied this gracious home. Now a delightful beach house, this handsome seaside retreat offers a truly memorable experience to visitors from around the world. Its rich maritime heritage, combined with 2,000 feet of scenic, unspoiled Admiralty Inlet beach, provides a perfect setting for a romantic getaway or an adventurous holiday.
View from the Verandah
Begin your day with a delicious gourmet breakfast, featuring seasonal cuisine, and served in the setting of your choice. Our individual tables overlook Point Wilson Lighthouse, Mount Baker, the ferries and Whidbey Island. If the weather permits, you may choose to dine on our sunny covered verandah.
This unique old seaport provides a multitude of things to see and do. Stroll into town and discover the quaint mansions, fine art and antique shops, fascinating museums and great restaurants of Victorian Port Townsend. View classic wooden boats and sleek modern yachts in Point Hudson Harbor. Rent a kayak for a moonlit paddle to Mystery Bay or cruise by the wildlife sanctuary at Protection Island. Bicycle over to the Marine Science Center and play with a starfish or pet an octopus. Pack a picnic lunch and hike the bluffs and beaches or stretch out in the shade of the tall evergreens in Chetzemoka Park. Let us arrange a day of golf, a bicycle trip or a sailing experience aboard one of our classic wooden vessels. Sign up for a day of whale watching.
This magnificent bald eagle, flying towards the Point Wilson Lighthouse, was photographed from our beach by guest Bob Falkenhagen.
