Introduction
The Sugartree Inn, a nine room bed and breakfast, is located in central Vermont in the town of Warren in the Sugarbush-Mad River Valley home to both Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas. The valley, which consists of the towns or Moretown, Waitsfield, Fayston, Warren and Granville is bordered on one side by farmlands and the Mad River and on the other, The Green Mountains of Vermont. Just over the mountain is the the town of Northfield, Vermont home to Norwich University.
From the outside, The Sugartree Inn looks like a chalet. In summer, window boxes are overflowing with colorful flowers and you may find a hummingbird outside your window. In winter, the views are glistening trees and the snow covered trails of the Sugarbush ski area. The inn is located just 1/4 mile from downhill skiing near the base of the slopes.
The inn features 9 individually decorated rooms all with private bath. Rooms have either brass, canopy, or antique reproduction beds and are furnished with many beautiful antiques. One room, the White Breasted Nuthatch, has a gas fireplace with a queen size bed and private sitting area.
About the Area
There is lots of activity to enjoy here. Outdoor recreation in the summer includes: canoeing (the valley is the orignal home of Mad River Canoe), golf, tennis, soaring, hiking, walking, mountain biking, road biking, fly fishing and horseback riding. Downhill skiing and cross country skiing are very popular in winter as well as snowmobiling and snowshoeing. After all that strenuous exercise, there are places to watch (and taste!) how Vermont specialty foods are made including Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, Cabot Cheese, Cold Hollow Cider, maple sugar houses. The valley also hosts an array of unique and cultural events. For crafts, there are shops for quilts, pottery, wooden salad bowls, wind chimes. Kathy and Frank know where the most interesting antique shops are located.
