Introduction
The two stately historic buildings which are the home of The Inn at Montpelier were built in the early 1800's. Both buildings are classically federal in design and as is typical of New England architecture, have been added to on several different occasions.
The extravagant wraparound colonial revival porch added to the yellow building is a prominent landmark in a row of gracious townhouses built by the founders of Montpelier.
Organized as a town in 1791 and made the permanent capital of Vermont in 1805, Montpelier offers a variety of historic, recreational, educational and cultural activities. Situated on the Winooski and North Branch Rivers which wind through the city, Montpelier is the heart of Vermont, just twenty-five miles from four major ski areas and the many lakes and streams nearby are ideal for fishing and water sports. The surrounding mountains offer hiking, cross country skiing or scenic drives.
Through the Seasons at The Inn at Montpelier...
Montpelier's year begins with the convening of the Legislature, an active time in the beautiful gold domed Capitol.
As the days get longer towards springtime, maple sugaring begins and a visit to one of the many sugar houses is a must.
Summer brings the smell of fresh mown hay from the fields of our local dairy farms.
Try picking your own strawberries or buy them at the 'Farmers Market' at the Jailhouse Common.
Summer festivals and sidewalk sales give way to the crowning glory of Vermont's seasons.
Autumn must be seen to be believed and fall foliage activities abound throughout the area.
The pristine beauty of winter snow completes the cycle and Montpelier turns into "The Christmas City".
During the winter, The Inn at Montpelier can provide you with the latest ski information.
Ski and other equipment is available in the city center and can be rented.
Dining Room
In creating The Inn at Montpelier great care has been given to retaining architectural details - the Greek and Colonial Revival woodwork, the ten fireplaces, the gracious front staircases, the glass fronted china cupboards, to name a few, have all been preserved.
The Inn is a part of Montpelier's National Historic District and takes us back to an era of gracious living.
