Activities & Attractions

There are endless ways to spend your days. Here are just some suggestions. When you are here we can recommend additional events and attractions based on the season and your personal interests.
  • You might begin by exploring charming Historic Dorset Village. The local architecture and marble walkways will transport you to a bygone time. From there you might head south five miles to Manchester where an abundance of outlet and boutiques await.
  • Dorset Players presents community theatre as well as other entertainment at the newly renovated Dorset Playhouse from Oct – May.
  • Dorset Theatre Festival presents professional theatre at the renowned Dorset Playhouse mid-June through Labor Day. Known as "a theatre where plays are well done - whether drama, comedy, or those that defy categorization" -- the playhouse is only two miles from the inn.
  • Southern Vermont Art Center on the 400 acre Yester House Estate offers 10 large, art-filled galleries -- just 5 minutes away.
  • Hildene, a 24-room Georgian Revival mansion, was home to Abraham Lincoln's descendants until 1975. The interior has been preserved with original furnishings and family effects. Tour the grounds as well, the antique perennial garden is stunning.
  • American Museum of Fly Fishing: Home to the world's largest collection of angling art and angling-related items, brings the history of fly fishing alive for anglers and others.
  • Shopping, of course, can be a championship event if you choose. Internationally recognized designer outlets line the main streets in Manchester. Browse the wares of such designers as: Ralph Lauren, Nine West, Coach, Ann Taylor, J Crew, Coldwater Creek, Brooks Brothers, Theory, Michael Kors, Hickey Freeman. Plus a unique blend of interesting local shops and excellent restaurants to suit every taste are scattered throughout, look for them.
  • Restaurant chefs from all over the world have established roots in Vermont. From casual to fine dining we are sure you will find your appetite satisfied. We would be happy to make dinner reservations for you.
  • Seasonal Outdoors Events include hiking the 3300 acres of mountain at Merck Forest and Farmland Center or you might choose The Long Trail. Enjoy canoeing and trout fishing in the famed Battenkill, or cast a fly into the Mettowee River, one of the few rivers that flow north. Tour the country back roads on bicycle or take advantage of nearby golf, tennis, and horseback riding. Swimming, picnics and boating are possible at Lake St. Catherine and Lake Shaftsbury State Parks.
  • Back Road Discovery Tours is small, local, guided tour service that explores beautiful vistas, tiny hamlets, abandoned marble quarries, historical and cultural sights.
