Introduction
The Governor's House is the centerpiece of the quiet village of Hyde Park, just nine miles from the world-class resort of Stowe, Vermont. The fully-restored historic mansion offers the quintessential New England holiday. Perfect for a honeymoon or romantic weekend getaway, it is also ideal for family reunions, intimate weddings, romantic elopements or simply enjoying the fall foliage or sleigh rides in the scenic countryside.
Charm and luxury abound inside this distinctive inn furnished with antiques, bedroom fireplaces, and a well-stocked library. The Green Mountains will beckon offering skiing, hiking, dog sledding, snowshoeing, fly fishing, and glider rides to name a few. Our Jane Austen weekends offer a chance to feel you've escaped to Regency England with a variety of literary-inspired activities. Adjacent to the bike trail along the scenic Lamoille River which doubles in winter as part of the VAST trail, it's an easy stop while biking or by snowmobile.
In 1893, Vermont Governor Carroll S. Page built the house for his family on the bluff in Hyde Park not far from his boyhood home. A copy of the 1759 Georgian house in Cambridge, Massachusetts, known as the Longfellow House, it also had the latest gas lighting fixtures, a drinking fountain of Vermont marble, and made-to-order mirrored mantle-pieces.
For modern comfort we've added in-room high speed internet, WiFi, cable TV and VCR/DVD players, and a fully handicap accessible room with a private porch and garden. Many original details have survived the century, and the house has been restored and decorated to preserve the gracious elegance of an earlier time. So when you're ready for a very comfortable stay, come to The Governor's House in Hyde Park and back to a time when warm bread and cookies come straight from the oven, and maple syrup comes straight from the tree.

Guests will find the inn's big, quiet guest rooms very inviting. The parlor is always available to guests, and the well-stocked library is a perfect place for afternoon tea or a game of chess. The cozy reading nook on the second floor has a panoramic view of the mountains, and the quiet portico overlooking the back toward the mountains is a great place to enjoy a summer afternoon drink.
A very hearty three-course breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. in the dining room, which looks out toward the mountains. On summer afternoons, fresh lemonade and homemade cookies are served. In the fall, it's likely to be cold cider with cheddar cheese and crackers. Winter guests are often warmed with mulled cider.
