The Governor's House in Hyde Park

Charm and luxury abound inside this distinctive inn furnished with antiques, bedroom fireplaces, and a well-stocked library. The Green Mountains will beckon offering skiing, hiking, dog sledding, snowshoeing, fly fishing, and glider rides to name a few. Our Jane Austen weekends offer a chance to feel you've escaped to Regency England with a variety of literary-inspired activities. Adjacent to the bike trail along the scenic Lamoille River which doubles in winter as part of the VAST trail, it's an easy stop while biking or by snowmobile.

For modern comfort we've added in-room high speed internet, WiFi, cable TV and VCR/DVD players, and a fully handicap accessible room with a private porch and garden. Many original details have survived the century, and the house has been restored and decorated to preserve the gracious elegance of an earlier time. So when you're ready for a very comfortable stay, come to The Governor's House in Hyde Park and back to a time when warm bread and cookies come straight from the oven, and maple syrup comes straight from the tree.

Welcome Single Travelers
Single travelers who stay at least two nights will have the option of enjoying a quiet supper at the inn at no extra charge. Complimentary bottle of wine for one. Full breakfast and afternoon tea included. Special Price: starting at $95 per night.

Afternoon Tea
Please come to Afternoon Tea at The Governor's House in Hyde Park Thursdays and Sundays, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Reservations required. (802) 888-6888. The cream tea for $12.50 per person consists of warm freshly-made scones served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The full English tea for $22.50 per person consists of several varieties of tea sandwiches and fancy pastries as well as the scones. Both come with endless pots of tea and you are, of course, welcome to spend as long as you like enjoying it. Just a pot of tea with a little something on the side is $6.50 per person. We'll happily accommodate anything from tea for one or two to a large birthday celebration. Instructional teas which demonstrate the gracious art of pouring and enjoying a tea party are tailored to all ages. At least two hours notice is usually required for reservations for cream tea and twenty-four hours for the full tea to accommodate the baking. Other days and times are possible by prior arrangement. Having Tea in New England calls it "the most proper afternoon tea this side of the Atlantic".

A very hearty three-course breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. in the dining room, which looks out toward the mountains. On summer afternoons, fresh lemonade and homemade cookies are served. In the fall, it's likely to be cold cider with cheddar cheese and crackers. Winter guests are often warmed with mulled cider.
