Introduction
The Chipman Inn - Ripton, Vermont
Welcome to the uncrowded heart of Vermont:
lovely, tranquil and interesting.

The Chipman Inn is small, informal and very comfortable; we emphasize hospitality and personal service. The Inn is located in the village of Ripton, a charming mountain town where the poet Robert Frost lived for several decades.

Our eight guest rooms have private baths, are air-conditioned, and are individually furnished with attractive antiques. The main lounge, with its private bar (wine and beer) and original kitchen hearth, provides a relaxing atmosphere. Other public rooms include a sunny reading room and candle lit dining room decorated with colonial stenciling.

Wireless internet access is available for guests with notebook computers.

We are located in the heart of the Green Mountains...

Outdoor activities are many and varied, with numerous trails and back country roads, providing opportunities to enjoy the unspoiled landscape. Notable are Vermont's Long Trail and Robert Frost Interpretive Trail, the latter being a nature walk with the poet's works posted along the path. Swim and canoe at nearby Lake Dunmore , golf at Middlebury College, or just have a picnic in the woods or meadows. Outstanding cross-country downhill skiing are a few minutes' drive from the Inn, with equipment rental available.

The college town of Middlebury, eight miles to the west, lies in the gentle terrain of the Lake Champlain Valley. The town offers a variety of fine shops, restaurants, the Vermont State Craft Center, the Morgan Horse Farm, and, of course, Middlebury College. Lake Champlain, the Shelburne Museum, historic Fort Ticonderoga, and other places of interest are within easy reach.

In addition to Middlebury's fine restaurants, there are options for excellent dining just two miles from from the Inn.
