The Butternut Inn is one of Stowe's most unique and delightful Bed & Breakfasts. The views, expansive riverfront grounds, and sprawling interior, contribute to its allure. The Inn provides a warm, country-quaint atmosphere. If you are looking for accommodations which are very much noncommercial in nature, the Butternut will be your choice. |

| Upon entering the Inn you are greeted with a sweet fragrance, soft music and deep red fabrics which highlight 50 year old golden pine walls. A stone fireplace is the center piece. Family antiques are scattered everywhere. A total of NINE common areas with four fireplaces, guarantee your privacy. OUR OUTDOOR HOT TUB INSURES YOUR RELAXATION. A small spa-room with comfortable seating acts as the perfect cooling off/chat room. A delicious, full breakfast is provided. | Each of the 18 rooms has a varied color scheme -- light, airy and delightful. Every room has a private bath; some with a full tub or whirlpool bath. There are four fireplaced areas located in various corners of the Inn; perfect places to enjoy tea, delicious wine or your favorite beverage. Guests are seen often, curled up in a corner, with a warm blanket, chocolate chip cookies, a hot cup of tea and a good book! |
There are numerous common rooms in the Inn. The French Arbor Room, with fireplace, is one of the favorites. The wide pine walls and floors, together with the French doors and windows, make a glorious spot for conversation and good cheer. The Butternut has a billiard room with an early 1900s' billiard table. In addition, there is a game room/TV room loaded with great videos. The Butternut Bar, with fireplace, is another frequented spot. The dining room, with fireplace, is filled with antique tables and chairs. The large plate glass windows afford a great view of the gardens and multitude of feeding birds.

If you wish to venture outside, there are 8 acres for exploration. Hidden along the path is a romantic treehouse. The land slopes down to the river with spectacular views of Stowe's Mount Mansfield, the valley and surrounding farms. The Butternut has several walking/snowshoeing/cross-country ski paths, which are lighted at night. The summer months bring magic to the air. There are white mini-lights everywhere, including the gardens and arbor. The kidney-shaped swimming pool with a picture-frame view of Mt. Mansfield is a favorite place to cool off. There are gliders, a tree swing and, of course, a hammock perfectly placed at the river's edge. The Butternut has a small reflecting pond with miniature waterfall. There are THREE stone grilles -- one poolside. We have a croquet course set up at the rear of the property -- a fun spot for all ages. |
The Butternut is a perfect romantic retreat. A quiet place in time to recharge your body and mind. We look forward to your stay with us.
Note: The entire Inn can be reserved for private events: weddings, (family/friends) reunions, retreats and meetings. We have packages for spring, summer, winter and late fall. Specialty workshops are also offered.
