Introduction
Nestled on 150 mountainside acres overlooking the Battenkill Valley, the century-old West Mountain Inn has been welcoming travelers with warmth and hospitality for the last 30 years. The Inn offers romantic, antique-filled guest rooms, fantastic views, extensive gardens, and fabulous dining ... all providing the perfect get-away to relax and rewind! Discover why we have been chosen a "Fodor's Choice" and a Yankee Travel Guide "Editor's Pick". The #1 rated inn in Arlington - read our TripAdvisor Reviews!
Built as a farmhouse in 1849, the West Mountain Inn was transformed into a special country retreat by the Carlson family in 1978. The Inn's lovely flower gardens, stone walls, mountain views, lily ponds, and llamas immerse guests in the beauty and tranquility of Vermont. Miles of snowshoeing or hiking trails and the Battenkill River provide seasonal outdoor activities just steps from the Inn's front door.
Guests enjoy a hearty country breakfast and an exquisitely prepared fireside dinner in the romantic, wood-paneled dining room. Private dining, meeting rooms, and 100 year old Vermont barn provide a variety of unique spaces for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions or business meetings. Still owned and operated by the Carlson family and their long-time staff, the inn's warm and welcoming ambience is one of the main reasons guests find themselves returning again and again.
Dining here at the Inn is a very important part of your stay. Chef Jeff Scott prepares fine New England fare with only the freshest of ingredients. Everything that is served is made in our kitchen using local, organic produce, free-range meats and poultry, seasonal game, local cheeses and dairy products, fresh-daily fish and home-baked breads, pastries and desserts. Dinner starts with an Artisan Cheese Selection in the Bar, followed by a fabulous 5-course meal in our romantic wood-paneled dining room with fireplace, candlelight and fabulous views.
The Inn serves a sumptuous, multi-course breakfast each morning with fresh-baked muffins, omelets, pancakes and even dessert! We reserve the dining room first for our inn guests and then take reservations for outside diners, so please call ahead for reservations. The Inn's dining room, including a private dining room ideal for small parties, is open to the public by reservation. Our historic 100 year-old barn is the perfect place for a rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, conference or other gathering.

The Cottage in the Pines
The Cottage in the Pines was the home in which the Carlson's raised their family. It is part way up the driveway and is now home to three charming separate guest rooms, each with its own private bath. In the Cottage there is also a shared living room with wood burning fireplace and a small kitchen.
The Historic Mill Building
The Historic Mill Building was an old mill that was turned into three Townhouse apartments. Each apartment is fully equipped with two bedrooms and a bath upstairs and a living room and kitchen downstairs. Perfect for families, the townhouses also have satellite TVs and offer a little more room to spread out! Just off the Battenkill River, they are wonderful for anglers, families and nature lovers!
