Introduction
William Cox Inn is a country B&B nestled in the Virginia foothills overlooking the Shenandoah National Park. A 1770 historical home with a spectacular view of the mountains provides an experience of relaxation and comfort. A large addition of four bedrooms on the North side has been added. An extensive, sustainably grown vegetable garden provides the basis for seasonal, flavorful cuisine that can be enjoyed in the original 200 year old dining room, and harvested by the visiting guest. Our neighbors, Autumn Hill Vineyard and Stone Mountain Vineyard are the source of learning about great Virginia wines.
Our Inn is located on the eastern base of the Shenandoah National Park in Greene County, Virginia. Experience the beauty of a pristine mountain sunrise or sunset, observe native birds you have never seen before, or walk on our 28 acres to the Roach River and maybe see a native trout. For our meals we offer the experience of enjoying seasonal, local foods, many coming from our farm. Locally raised beef, lamb, pork, eggs and chicken are always on the menu.
Our land was purchased by William Cox in 1760, with his home built in 1770. When you walk in the old house, the feeling of history is immediately felt, and you can sit in the same room where conversation about the Revolutionary War was most definitely discussed. Enjoy tea and homemade sweets each day at 4 pm in the Library. In the winter, hot chocolate is served at 11 pm in the Library. Our Great Room has a Tulikivi soapstone fireplace and nine windows overlooking the mountain view from our 70 foot porch. If you want more privacy, our sunporch can be quiet and inspirational.
If you enjoy a more rustic and private experience, our River Cabin would be the perfect accommodation. We will be planning to serve Saturday evening dinners in the future and our cuisine will focus on foods procured from local Virginia farms that emphasize naturally grown vegetables and humanely raised animals. Additional fun at the Inn includes a regulation Bocce court, horseshoes, picnic pavilion and an in-ground swimming pool.
