Introduction
Celebrating over 200 years of hospitality, Innkeepers George and Juanita Miller, and Paul Murphy take pride in faithfully preserving the "Rosendale tradition" for their 21st Century guests. Since 1790, historic Rosendale Inn Bed and Breakfast has graciously hosted presidents and their first ladies, foreign ministers, ambassadors, aviation pioneers, explorers, and celebrities. Beautiful Rosendale was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's cherished retreat and Mrs. Woodrow Wilson dined here in 1939. Will Rogers loved its tranquility.
Come stay with us and step back in time to a bygone era when life
was genteel and traditions of warm southern hospitality wove themselves
in the very fabric of the homes of the Shenandoah Valley.
Nestled on pastoral lands at the base of the Massanutten Mountains halfway between Harrisonburg and New Market, Rosendale is rich in natural beauty, wildlife, architecture, and history. Known locally as "the farmhouse," Rosendale is one of the most beautiful surviving homes in the Valley and is being authentically restored by historic preservationist and Innkeeper, Paul Murphy, whose earlier projects included Pavilion 9 in Jefferson's Academic Village at the University of Virginia.
All suites for our guests are large and spacious, some with 11 foot ceilings. Many have fireplaces, and all have a large private bath. Each suite is named after a president. All suites are decorated with authentic antique period furnishing, except for the beds which are double, king, and queen size. The well-preserved manor house has grand verandas, two-story antebellum columns, and warm heart pine flooring. The original log house, now the dining room, built in 1790 and expanded in 1870, is perched on top of a hill overlooking Smith's Creek and the gently rolling hills beyond. A large limestone "Spring House", where milk was once cooled and laundry was done, is located to the North of the mansion. To the West is a brook and a wooded preserve. Beyond that are the riding pastures, so bring your horses (stable lodging and pastures are available).
Conference Room rental includes two large rooms, the Dining Room and the Library. Video and audio equipment is available. Rosendale has hosted hundreds of weddings, birthday, anniversary, and other celebrations and events involving large numbers of people and requiring plenty of lawn space for tents, outdoor activities, and parking.
