On the scenic bank of the North Fork of the Holston River, nestled in the foothills of the picturesque Clinch Mountains and just outside historic Abingdon, Virginia, The River Garden is a place where you can feel at home away from home. The setting is gorgeous. The guest rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, each with an exterior door that opens to a covered deck overlooking the river. And the food IS something to write home about! Paula, Scott, Haley and Max Hine, your host family, will do everything to make you feel welcome, at ease and at home.

Special activities:
*If you like canoeing, you can be driven upstream in the spring to canoe back to the bed and breakfast. Enjoy the calm water of the river and the excitement of navigating the river rapids. Waiver must be signed. Cost $50 (limit 2 people). Includes use of canoe, paddles and life jackets.

*Be driven to a nearby mountain top lake to spend two hours canoeing its' calm waters. Waiver must be signed ($50.00-limit two people). Includes use of canoe, paddles and life jackets and transportation.

Your private room shares the riverside deck overlooking the gentle rapids of the Holston River's north fork. The private exterior entrance gives access to a comfortably furnished room with either king or queen size bed and features a full bath and central heat and air. (Each room has an inside entry into the main part of the house.)

The decks, living room and dining room are for the relaxation and enjoyment of our guests. We encourage you to relax in front of the fireplace or outside on the deck while listening to the murmur of the river and the various sounds of nature. Try your hand at bocce ball, croquet or horseshoes out on the great lawn surrounded by mountain splendor. Indoors, relax as you play a classic or current boardgame, work on a puzzle or take up a card game, or choose to watch a dvd in the den from our large movie collection.

A full breakfast starts off each day and boasts fresh fruit, juice, a hot entree and plenty of coffee and tea. Each day’s menu is different and may be eaten in the dining room, on the deck as you listen to the sounds of the river, or in your room. If you so desire, you can cast a line into the river and attempt to catch your own breakfast!!
