Introduction
The Retreat is located on 175 acres of field and forest,
with a stream, a pond, and numerous springs. In addition to the new
Retreat Guest House, there is a Rustic Cabin, animal pens where various
birds and animals are raised, and the Floyd's home. Wild life is abundant,
both native and migratory, and the views are spectacular in all
seasons. There are five guest bedrooms with individual
baths, and a comfortable common room with kitchenette, on the main floor.
All rooms have a dynamic view of Great North Mountain. The Japanese baths
and a Japanese style sitting room are located on the lower level, also
with splendid views of the mountainside. The premises are wheel chair
accessible.
In addition to the two large Japanese baths,
which are fed by natural spring waters, there is an excellent all-weather
tennis court, which also serves as volleyball, badminton, or basketball
court. Guests can fish at the pond, which is well-stocked with bass and
bluegill. Several miles of easy, well-marked hiking trails twist around
the property for those who love nature walks.
Your
Innkeepers, Walter and Taeko Floyd, have owned the property for 30
years but have only recently achieved their dream of opening a small
'B&B'. Walter spent most of his career with the Foreign Service, much
of it in Japan, where he met Taeko, a native of Tokyo. Taeko has spent the
last ten years managing an American-Japanese Exchange Organization. For
the last few years they have run a summer camp for Japanese and American
children. They look forward to serving you.
The Inn is
situated at the base of Great North Mountain in the Northwestern part
of the Shenandoah Valley.
Come and enjoy a unique mountain
country experience, with the distinct flavor of
Japan.
