Introduction
Mill Quarter Plantation is part of a 7,000 acre land grant by King George II of England in 1724 to William Randolph II (1681-1742). In 1761, his grandson, Peyton Randolph, inherited the quarter containing the Mill at the Appomattox River. He built the two-story, federal style, brick mansion circa 1770. After the end of the War between the States, the plantation fell into disrepair and was restored by colonial Williamsburg artisans in the 1930īs.
Today, the brick residence is situated in a grove of century old holly, cedar, dogwood, birch magnolia and other native hardwood trees, surrounded by beautiful azaleas, rhododendrons and massive boxwoods.
