Introduction
"At the junction of the Robinson River and what in old time was called the
Meander, lies one of the best farms in Piedmont Virginia."
From "Memoir of Colonel Joshua Fry"
The Inn at Meander Plantation sits majestically
on 80 acres of rolling pastures and woods. Nestled
in a bend of the scenic Robinson River, The Inn is located
on U.S. Route 15, 9 miles south of Culpeper and 8 miles
north of Orange. Charlottesville is only 35 miles to the south.
Washington, D.C. is 70 miles to the northeast.
Return To A Gentler Time
Cradled in the heart of Jefferson's Virginia, The Inn at Meander Plantation
offers a rare opportunity to experience the charm and elegance of Colonial living
at its best. This historic country estate, which dates to 1766, allows
guests to return to an earlier, more romantic time when hospitality was a
matter of pride and fine living was an art practiced in restful surroundings.
Escape To A Simpler Side Of Life
Escape to The Inn at Meander Plantation to rest, relax and enjoy the pleasures
of a simpler life. Stroll through formal boxwood gardens or wander woods and
fields where wildlife abounds. Watch bluebirds flitter from fence to fence.
Admire horses grazing on the knoll. Cool off with summertime tubing on the
Robinson River. Organize a game of croquet or volleyball on the rolling
lawns or bike down surrounding country lanes. Swing in a strategically
placed hammock that faces spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
White rockers line both levels of the expansive back proches, providing
peaceful respites for sipping afternoon tea, reading the latest novel or
watching breathtaking mountain sunsets.
Inside the stately colonial mansion, you will find plenty of private nooks
for reading, writing or quiet contemplation. Or join other guests for
pleasant conversation in the parlor where Thomas Jefferson and General
Lafayette were frequent visitors. A baby grand piano stands ready for
impromptu concerts.
The sun-drenched bedrooms, reflective of the elegance and romance of a
Virginia country estate, welcome you with warmth and comfort. Four poster
Queen beds piled high with plump pillows beckon you to snuggle beneath
down comforters. Each of the five guest rooms, tastefully appointed and
furnished with antiques and period reproductions, offers a private bath.
Walk In Jefferson's Footsteps
Once you catch a glimpse
of the imposing manor house and dependencies at The Inn at
Meander Plantation, you will know you are about to step
back in time.
Savor The Colonial Flavors
Join your fellow guests in the formal dining room - or under the arched
breezeway on sun-warmed mornings - for a full country gourmet breakfast. Fresh
baked breads and muffins topped with homemade apple butter or fruit
preserves compliment tantalizing and creative entrees that vary with the
seasons and the mood of the morning. ("Heart Healthy" breakfasts are available
on request.) After breakfast, innkeeper Suzie Blanchard, a food
writer/teacher/enthusiast, will welcome a chance to share her knowledge
and perhaps a recipe gleaned from her extensive and eclectic collection of
more than 300 cookbooks.
Full Dinner service is available to guests with advance reservations. For that
day of sightseeing, request a take-along picnic basket. The graceful rooms and
gardens of The Inn at Meander Plantation are always available for special
events such as weddings, receptions, dinners, parties, reunions and
small meetings.
