Historic Lexington, Virginia
Lexington is heralded by many as the best small town in the Shenandoah Valley, most are amazed at the well preserved state of this 19th century college town. Your host, John Roberts was born here, his local knowledge is sure to help you get the most out of your trip here. One favorite of Lodge guests is the walk down the tree-lined streets to the museums, colleges or restaurants. The Lodge sets in a quiet neighborhood with lots of older historic homes, which make an interesting study of architecture. The town has 7,000 population; you don't get lost in the shuffle here. Lexington is a must see town for Civil War buffs, famous Confederate Generals Lee and Jackson are both buried. Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute are a "hop and a skip". The Lodge is recommended by the Princeton Review for visiting college campuses, both admission houses are 2 minutes drive away. VMI offers guided cadet tours of the Institute most days.
The City of Lexington has one of the finest and most helpful Visitor Centers in the country. Jean Clark and her staff have many years of service and it shows just about the time you start though their door. An always favorite Historic Lexington Tour starts at the center with a detailed brochure; lots do the self guided tour around the museums, old homes and universities. Lexington is fortunate to have some many of our guests love to do day trips from Lexington. Natural Bridge, Appomattox, Charlottesville, Lewisburg W.Va., The Homestead New Market and many more can make for a very pleasant day. Make sure you allow enough space in your travel plans to see as much as possible.
