Riding Vacation and Clinics
Horseback Riding Vacations
Our Goal at Lantern Lane Farm is to offer you a week of "horsey bliss" in a quiet country setting away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. For riders who cannot be away for a whole week, our customized riding vacation program may work better for you.
We are an equestrian bed and breakfast and training center with a full-time certified instructor/trainer onsite. This combination creates a perfect haven for your week of rest, relaxation and equestrian gratification. You may choose to ride once a day for an extended period of time, or divide your riding into morning and evening sessions.
The biggest decisions you will have to make is whether you want to take dressage, balance seat, or jumping lessons, and/or go cross country trail riding with an experienced guide. Your next important decision will be, where do you want to go for dinner?
Activities at the farm start with breakfast. The next activity of course is riding! Riding lessons and cross country trail rides are scheduled according to the request of the day. Lessons are given in the morning following the breakfast hour and/or later in the afternoon, or, a guest may choose to take a two hour riding lesson for a more intense and detailed learning experience. These types of lessons are great for getting to the bottom of riding problems that may need great detail and discussion to resolve, when an hour just isn't enough.
The Rest of the Day can be enjoyed as you wish. Reading and napping are favorite guest activities. There are also great antique stores in the area, wineries that provide wine tastings, Skyline Drive (a scenic route across the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains), canoeing, and Luray Caverns that are all within one hour of the farm. We are twenty minutes from the towns of Warrenton and Culpeper, two pre-Civil War main street communities which offer small town shopping and restaurants.
Group Clinics: A clinic is a two, three or four day intensive study session around one or two subjects. It involves two actual riding lessons per day, one in the a.m. and one in the p.m. The middle of the day is spent in an unmounted session using discussion, video tapes and charts to help you ingest more information about the subject. Lunch will also be served during this time period. After the p.m. riding session, the participants are on their own time for rest and relaxation. A small hors d'oeuvre bar will be served between 5:30 and 6:30 and the participant's video tapes will be available for viewing. The rest of the evening is reserved for dinner for the entire group at a local area restaurant. There will be a summary session on Sunday, thirty minutes after the last riding session. You will receive your video tape of your riding, and any hand out materials necessary to complete your clinic. This is a time when any personal questions can be answered by the instructors regarding your future training program.
Private or Semi-Private Clinics: A private or semi-private clinic is designed for one or two riders. The package includes two riding lessons and one un-mounted lesson per day. The schedule will be customized for the riders by our staff. The lessons could all be in the morning, spread out during the day or partially in the evening depending on the weather. We will provide unmanned videotaping and try to make it possible for the riders to view their tapes while participating in the clinic. Riders will receive the videos at the end of the clinic but will be responsible for turning them into VHS format.
Lunch will be provided by Lantern Lane Farm. Clinic guests can dine at one of our area restaurants, or with advanced notice, may dine with us at the farm for a cost of $20 per person. Gratuities are not included in the price, but very much appreciated by our staff if you think they are deserving.
Because it is a customized clinic, the subjects can be adjusted to fit whatever the rider really needs while trying to work out old problems, or start on new topics. Whether you do a group clinic or a private/semi-private clinic, one thing is for sure, everyone should go home more enlightened and better trained in the subject matter than when they arrived. Please feel free to ask us detailed questions when you call for information or to make your reservation.
