Introduction
"Rivah', Romance, Revival"... Located one block from the Rappahannock River, in the heart of Tappahannock's downtown historic district, The Essex Inn offers its guests spacious, romantic accommodations in an 1850 Greek Revival mansion.
We invite you to come and share the history and grand elegance of the inn. Within a block or two there are many antique stores and several restaurants including Lowry's, a Tappahannock tradition since the 1940s.
Many recreational activities are also available nearby. Guests can play a round of golf; go fishing or cruising on the Rappahannock River; canoeing up one of the many unspoiled creeks or biking in town or along beautiful country roads; visit one of the charming towns nearby such as Urbanna or Irvington; enjoy a wine tasting at Ingleside winery or one of the other ten wineries in the area.
Gift Certificates are available and make very popular gifts.

This three course meal includes our own blend of fresh ground coffee, low fat granola, seasonal fruits and/or homemade breads and jellies, and seasonal house favorites such as Banana's Foster French toast served with bacon or a Mushroom Oven Omelet served with sausage, homemade tomato chutney and our famous Essex Inn potatoes.
Guests have full access to The Butler's pantry, which includes a beer tap, refrigerator, microwave and a full array of snacks. A screened-in porch and a private brick courtyard provide outdoor relaxation and smoking facilities.
